Do I get eggs if I net instead of kill?

Or does it have higher chance to give me an egg or it's pretty much the same as killing?

From what I can tell, you have to collect their meat for a chance for their Egg to drop, more meat you get, better chance of getting an Egg.

Tranq'ing or Netting increases the amount of meat you get thus you get a higher chance of getting an Egg, but isn't completely necessary as I've gotten eggs from 2 Star kills for example.

I'm pretty sure it also only counts if you bring the catch with you when you surface. I don't think you get "credit" for killing or catching fish willy nilly, regardless of star quality, towards getting roe. I wish we did though...

Correct, you have to bring the meat to the surface.

On the other hand, if you're just looking for Rare Materials that certain Fish/Jellyfish/Sharks etc. drop. You only have to collect from their corpse for a chance of their Rare material being given to you, afterward you can discard their corpse and not bring it to the surface. As the Rare mat is given to you on a % chance every time you loot their corpse. Quality doesn't matter either, 1 Star has same chance as 3 Star for giving you the Rare mat.
