Getting fish crafting parts from fish

I'm trying to get the final net gun upgrade, and I need 3 Pelican Eel Skins. I have one, and I'm not 100% sure how I got it. I know the location of one Pelican Eel, and I've been catching it every time I dive. It seems that if I catch fish alive and unharmed, I have a higher chance of getting bonus crafting parts from them. Can anyone confirm this? Does anyone know what the chances of getting the craft-able fish parts are?

would be nice if fish farm "catches" would also provide the occasional (dare I even suggest with higher chances) fish parts given that you're, you know, raising a whole ass fish.

How do you get a high rating on the bigger fish? I need giant travelly fins, and I can't seem to collect them without killing them.

you dont need to collect the fish alive to get the parts, I think it's better to just kill it and harvest. There is a chance you will get the fins, I got 3 giant trevally fins after killing about 10-12 of them

I'm also after trevally fins and killing them normally doesn't yield anything.

I just got 2 fins after melee killing them with the sword.

Just want to add my voice to the chorus. I'm already in the ice caverns but have never been able to upgrade my rifle to the tranq rifle because some parts never drop.

Would love to see a patch address the drop rate for 3 star catches.

I second the patch suggestion. Out of the dozens of Greenland Shark I have caught, never have I ever seen a friggin spine...
