What happens to items after a dive?

I just started but so far, I've found things like starfish, sea shells, and even a decorative bowl. Do these items get sold for profit? Or is Dave hanging on to these things somewhere? It's not very clear.

they sit in the yellow box on your boat, you can sell them to cobra or later in game sea people workshop, or save them for guns/upgrades
