Tranquilizer on big targets - Tranq Rifle Best?

Is it correct that the upgraded Hush Dart and all the Tranq gun variants have the same ability to catch the bigger fishes/sharks? If that is the case it seems that the Tranq Rifle comes on top due to it’s big magazine size. The drawback being it’s ability to kill small fish.

Am I missing something? I just want to sleep big Sharks and send them off on the sub! :)

A fully upgrade hush dart will tranq large fish/sharks, but it needs an item from the sea workshop to get to that level, and a large tranq requires 2 shots both on the target at the same time for it to work

Fully upgraded hush dart is the most reliable way to 3-star large sharks. Tranq triple axle is second best with its low damage and ability to proc sleep with each pellet not just each shot.

Personally, I always preferred the tranq rifle for the big fish. Even though it isn't guaranteed to put them to sleep, when it does it works immediately, and I've had it put them to sleep in a few shots. But the fully upgraded dart gun is nice if you're an expert at dodging the faster, angrier ones.

what do u need to harvest or capture a sleeping large fish? all i get is some stupid icon pop up that tells me absolutely nothing

Tranq Triple Axel is my choice; puts most of them to sleep on the first shot. Tranq Grenade is my 2nd. The max level hush dart was too expensive for my tastes.

no its not a button u can press, it appears for a split second when i press square on my controller for trying to harvest it but i cannot make out what it is trying to tell me

Fully upgraded Hush gun is easily the best weapon in the game, except for bosses. Immediately puts any normal fish a sleep with 1 shot, and you can get 2 shots to sharks with it to put them into sleep. Its pretty much god mode after you get it and you dont need to use harpoon again. Luckily, you get it late in the game, so it wont spoil the game, is just end game farming tool.

Freeze gun is the last gun to get, but complete trash lol. Takes 6 shots with it to freeze any fish, and then what? Stab it for tiny dmg?

If you look at big sharks isolated, then yes, the tranq weapons are better.
But the hush dart gives you more versatility.
You can catch almost everything 3-star with it.
I always pick up certain fish I use in my usual dishes along the way.

Yeah for large fish: tranq axel -- can often tranq on the first shot

For all fish: fully upgraded tranq dart but you need two shots on the large fish

Fully upgraded Hush dart is the best due to the 100% tranq chance, whereas the tranq weapons only have a 40% chance. That said any of the non-hush dart tranq weapons are good to have early on.

for sharks, I prefer the tranq rifle. the axel has a better chance due to the multiple pellets, but the rifle has better range and magazine. the sniper has even better range, but the low number of shots means you spend all your shots on a single shark. the dart is guaranteed if you can get it twice, but it has fewer shots than the rifle, so I deal with the chance of failing. the standoff range of the rifle or sniper gives you a better chance of dodging the shark anyways

hit mid game now and the tranq triple axel definitely seems best now it doesnt one shot fish anymore, u get 3 projectiles per shot fired that each can make the target sleep, so its ok for small targets if u can get up close, and even better for bigger ones since every projectile will hit, more often than not putting a shark to sleep with a single shot. the rifle is alright with a mag capacity of 8, but the axel gets 5x3 projectiles out

i heard the steel net is even better though with a mag capacity of 6 and ability to capture big fish too but i cant make it yet
