How to get Cuttlefish skin fragment?

I can’t seem to find it, and most other materials

Everything with the name of a fish in the name of the item can be acquired by hunting that fish. It's a random chance (and from what I can tell, the chance of getting one might have something to do with the quality at which you catch it - 1 star with the lowest chance, 3 star with the highest - but I haven't been able to confirm that.)

TLDR: from cuttlefish, which live past the shallows.

yeah, it's RNG. When I capture it using tranq darts, it drops some but too random.
Tranq darts just makes it easier to capture w/o the harpoon mini-game.

What does the Tranq Sniper do for you? Can it sleep the large fish like sharks? If not, why bother?

Tranq weapons CAN put sharks to sleep. Very useful for catching them alive before you get the final dart gun.

I remember putting like 3 tranq shots into a sawtooth and it never went to sleep. =/

Tranq guns have a 40% chance to sleep per shot. Sometimes you get unlucky. That is why I have the normal tranq rifle. It gives you the most ammo. Unless you are referring to the dart gun which can NOT put sharks to sleep until the level 4 upgrade which guarantees sleep in two shots.

Cuttlefish Skin Fragments are rare.
It's a 10% drop rate for 1-2 star, 15% for 3 star.

You cannot put sharks and other big animals to sleep via dart gun - for this you will need dropped/crafted tranq gear with "xx percent for instant sleep" - for me the best weapon to keep is the toy sleepy hammer - I did put the biggest sharks to sleep and boat-grab with it lol

Technically this is not correct. However I don't want to spoil anything for anyone but I will say you are also technically correct as the first tranq pistol you get cannot put large fishes to sleep.
