Fish Farm general question/s?
Just unlocked the fish farm and I'm not sure I know what to catch for it or how it technically works.

-I mean do I even want normal fish?
-So the first area do I even care?
-There is no like award or achievement for maxing out every normal sushi recipe right?

So I guess maybe what I'm wondering is.. does a guide exist that just tells me the best fish to capture for each depth? I tried to look and did not see any but if any of you have suggestions as to what fish I should be targeting and breeding I would appreciate it.

Thank you,

The 0-50m depth area still has quite a few valuable fish for later game recipes. Often "basic" fish will also be used as ingredients in dish recipes later, so it's still beneficial to have a variety of fish types captured. Just about every single area has at least several valuable types of fish.

What winds up in the fish farm will be roe that you sometimes get, at random, from catching adult fish. Captured fish will not appear in the fish farm, they're always destined for the fish tank at the sushi bar.

You could look at this guide, but there be spoilers. Personally I would not worry about optimizing the fish farm since you've just unlocked it, just keep playing and catch whatever you need. I unlocked each associated area in the fish farm as it became available and had no issues. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2999279900

Keeping breeding pairs of smaller fish is good if you want to max all the recipes to level 10, since the smaller fish seem to breed much faster than the larger ones. I typically have smaller fish go from 2 to 10-20 in a single day. Once you get all their recipes to 10 though, you can get rid of them completely (aside from ones that are in particularly high value recipes or event recipes) to make more room for farming the higher valued fish in that particular farm (like sharks).

to begin with just capture everything, it's fun anyway. Once you start to max level the single sushi dishes check the ingredient list (in the sushi restaurant) and take note of all the dishes you haven't unlocked yet (they will be blacked out with ???) keep those, cull the fish that have no further dishes past the single sushi. Keep upgrading the farm for space.

Truthfully there is no real right or wrong way to farm fish, you're not in trouble of "doing it wrong". Tailor it to your needs.

Keep 2 of every fish to keep the roe coming. You can sell the excess fish that aren't ingredients of your main recipes. The first area is very important because it stores rarer fish like Makos and tedious ones to catch like Tuna. Ultimately, just capture everything. As long as the aquarium stays below 100%, you will always get fish roe even it it goes overcapacity afterwards
