Gulikit and 8BitDo controllers not working in game

Having trouble getting my both of my controllers to work on my Macbook Air M1. Anyone have any idea why?
It's detected in Settings and in Steam but it's not working in game for some reason.

Cannot speak for anything Apple, but my Gulikit KingKong 2 Pro works in game. It's wireless, but I generally played wired for charging so you may want to try having it plugged if you have not already.

I have noticed a bit of weirdness for it detecting when I am using a controller versus keyboard, but generally speaking whatever I put the latest input in using, it recognizes as the current control device.

I have an 8BitDo Pro 2 controller and an M2 MacBook Air. If I connect via Bluetooth in A mode, I cannot button mash. If I connect using my 8BitDo Wireless USB Adapter in X mode, it only works about 10% of the time, but when it does, it works properly.
