Censorship?
Pal version for ps2 back in the day was heavily censored, religion symbols smoking etc removed. How censored this is going to be?

I'm sure you'll rage at whatever they decide to do.

I mean I don't care too much if they do, the ps2 pal version was already solid enough regardless.

I'd say there's a decent chance that this got retranslated, considering that the PS2 translation was done by Mastiff (and I think published by Atlus?).

So, will we get the uncut version of the game we didn't get before? Back then they made the decision to censor the game because they were smaller and not nearly as well known as they are nowadays. So does anyone think they will make the opposite choice this time?

Also they will have new voices, but will that mean the VA's from before will all be replaced? Curiously, I started looking for a version of this game that is on a newer platform since the ps2. And this looks like the my only option, since back then. Funny how all other NIS games have remakes etc... But this one was ignored for like forever, glad to see that no matter what at least we will get it on a newer platform.

Priere is uncensored at the beginning of the trailer, so I don't think it'll be a problem

The reason that Mastiff gave when they censored Tactics back in 2004 seems quite stupid in 2022:

"There are well organized forces that work hard to punish software makers and sellers for what they consider religious transgressions. As a very small and brand new publisher without deep pockets we need to pick and choose our battles. Had we thought the crosses were meaningful we would have fought. But they weren't. And we'd much rather have the game widely available then [sic] face disappointed gamers who cannot find the title. It was the right decision, though as we grow as company we may make different calls in the future."

Yeah, I don't think anyone is afraid of pissing off Christians these days

Normally, I roll my eyes at the "OMG CENSORSHIP" crowd, but considering how bowdlerized the PS2 release was, my immediate first question was "is this going to be the same deal, or will it be an uncut release?". None of the things they changed were important or anything, but they were just stupid, and worse, they were lazily done. Censoring out Croix's cigs but leaving the smoking animation with an empty hand? That was 4Kids level crap.

I hope they keep at least some of the VAs. Price on some of them might be an issue if they need to rerecord, but Jennifer Hale brought the freaking hammer down as Priere (as you'd expect from Hale). Fortunately, I think the Japanese VAs for the Ragnarok rerelease were the same, so they'll probably keep the English ones the same too, assuming they can get them.

Rather than uncensor it they'll likely censor even more things. I remember one of the Disgaea ports getting that treatment.

Change "religious transgressions" & some other words to a certain type of modern thinking and it's rather interesting...

It should be uncut. The ridiculous censoring happened due to the publisher at the time (Mastiff) censoring things to a European standard.
