Dragonkin: The Banished

Dragonkin: The Banished

ZzzZzzz
Played almost every arpg in the last 25 years and a big fan of the genre as a whole.

Sat on this one for a few weeks debating, letting reviews sift in and weighing the purchase.

Decided to give it a try while I wait for next PoE 2 league.

I almost fell asleep during the prologue 3 times.

The character abilities are all generic, have absolutely no weight behind them and just mindlessly feel like im hitting whatever button is most efficient to clear out the hordes of weightless pointless enemies thrown at me.

The prologue needs to be flat out removed, make an opening cinematic that explains all the heroes and have people start playing the actual game, because as it stands I couldnt even make it past the prologue.

It feels very moblie / browser game. The last time I felt combat like this was when I played Undecember for about an hour before uninstalling that.

This needs another year or so in the oven before even thinking of releasing. Because its competition Poe 2, Last Epoch, Grim Dawn etc are just superior games.

Having played the demo, I just skipped the prologue. It actually feels better to start out weak! About two hours in, with some skills and the grid filling out, it finally clicked with me. Though, as you suggest, it does nothing right now better than its competitors.
I almost fell for the reviews saying to ignore the negative feedback about the demo. I couldn't even handle the demo and prologue for 10mins. The story alone might be the single biggest cornball narrative that I've subjected myself to all year...yes, worse than Warhammer. My arpg background is similar to the OP. Reading this and subsequently noticing this was from Nacon told me everything I needed to know.

The devs have already mentioned that the prologue was a "mistake" so to speak. The game is way more enjoyable past this "tutorial-ish" sequence.
I bought it, thought it was dull and only played it once, for less than 2 hours. I closed it down, slept on it and decided to refund it. Then I saw that the game hadn't actually closed down for me even though I pressed the correct buttons, it was running in the background, hidden. I've read that this happened to others too.

So I can't refund in on account of about 20 hours of play time lol.

Oh well, at least it wasn't the cost of an AAA game.

I've played and enjoyed all the other ARPGs, so I don't see the point of making and releasing one that is poor compared to all of those. I mean, why set out to enter a game into a crowded genre, and make it the worse one???

Now I'm stuck with it, I might keep an eye on things to see if they make it interesting.

The worst one? You don't sound like you've tested a lot of ARPGs lmao

Also, this is an EA. Can't compare to other games out there in a full release state and especially not considering the price point.

This post is very harsh, you have about just as many abilities and keybinds as any other major ARpg out there. The prologue tells a story while you're seeing the four classes, so you know which one you want to start out with. They could have made you not invincible during the prologue, so it is more stimulating, but otherwise decent. I agree it's not an A-tier game, but it's a work in progress.
