On the new Squad Creation System
Hey

I really like the new Squad Creation System as I played for some time now but in my humble opinion, it will confuse the hell out new people.

This great game is based on producing gear, designing squad templates and gearing said templates. Then fighting with them.

Be a newbie :
You get into the game and you are provided with a tutorial :). Then, you press Squad Editor. Science & food are cool but hey, you came here for guns. You then discover at first glance the top left button : "Create Squad".

You press it, and give your first squad a proud name, as the bearer of your soon to be empire. Maybe the prefilled "Militia" should have given you a hint.
But no matter, you press on, clicking accept.

You'll then spend the next 15min adjusting each and every aspect of your squad making it the most fearsome of all. Yet its fate is already sealed.

1h later, realizing that militia gear may not put your charisma in full display, you decide to start producing Regular gear, hoping to provide The Bearers Of Pride with better tools in the soon to be Holy War For Resources against your neighboor.

But never will they receive it. As you damn fool didn't select the second top button on the left before clicking the first one. And never will you be able to change that fact. Your squad was Militia, is Militia and ever will be.

You're out of gear, can't produce squads, the button isn't greyed out it just not there (it's beta, everything in it's time :)) and you don't have a clue about what went wrong.

You will then spend 2h trying to figure out that you need reservists, at least some gear and some weapons to create a squad and for the magic button to appear.

Some hours later, you may then realize that the second top left button is related to your production and that the most efficient way to fit your 20 militia squads with proper gear is to quit the game, start over and choose the type of unit before pressing Create Squad.

I think it'd be much clearer to have 4 buttons "Create a police squad", "Create a militia squad" ...

Hopefuly, waiting for a way to change squad gear on the go :)

What's your take on this ?

I honestly push with research of specops gear and make all my combat units wear that. If one would limit the spec ops to only one squad I would just be confused.
I have spec ops for recon missions with recon type of squad, I have spec ops as motorized squad and also as infantry squad.
I would love to have "mechanized" squads adjusted with how many seats that vehicle has.
Also M117 APC carry troops INSIDE not on top and MRAP is a truck with large cargo capacity, much like the 12.7 Kamaz in game, and MRAP in game is actually JLTV recon car.
Seems like dev is from ex soviet space with huge bias towards eastern weapons and huge lack of knowledge in western weapons.

And again, please introduce discadable RPGs. Much easier to produce, much easier to equip.
Not asking for smart weapons like ATGMs and such ... yet ... :)

But hey, thanks for the game so far !
This is a bit of an old post but I would still like to add that you CAN switch your clothes on existing troops.
You just create a new squad with the new clothes and overwrite the old squads name that you created.

Say you created a Militia squad named "Militia Infantry", now you create a squad with Spec Op gear, if you name that Spec Op squad "Militia Infantry" and then Rearm your Militia in a town with Spec Op gear they will equip it.

The only drawback is that they will be named Militia Infantry hehe, so you could choose your naming wisely to avoid this ;)

I did not know this. Seems like it is more of an exploit rather than a feature but I'll take it. Good post.

Dunno about that, would be like saying switching weapons is an exploit.
All you're doing is giving your dudes new clothes.
I am pretty sure you're going to be able to swap attire on your troops in the future in an easier way.
With the new clothes your troops won't perform much different except having a bit better armor protection, and from what I've read here somewhere they move a bit slower with heavier gear.

I don't use anything other than Spec Ops for some country just because the other armors don't really look like a developed military's kit. I do wish there was a way to upgrade and reorganize troops more easily though.

Hey :)
I didn't know that but thats exactly what i'd like. Thank you. But indeed, I'd like it to be a core feature rather than an "exploit"
