Press "M" key to go into a Tactical Map / Drone View mode.

no i am just a giga noob and forgot how to go to map. you are alive as long as you have troops on the ground

You keep changing between units that are alive, and any of them can issue commands using 1) press Squad number + 2) left click
or via F1, F2 buttons etc
or via Hold Down the number of the Squad until the Command Wheel comes up.

Is it possible to command a battle specifically from the Tactical Map/RTS Mode instead of being a soldier on the ground?
