Even if this is the freeman devs id like to give them the chance to impress us all. if they are independent devs sorry this is even a thread but you knew it would happen.
Either way this game has a lot of potential and if done right will be big
Now I'm not saying that "Thunder Devs." is the latest alias for KK Game Studios for sure, but their resemblance is still uncanny for several reasons:
- The game pops up months after the last news update of Freeman, with a very similar premise (even if TC:R is closer to the genrebending of Call to Arms and Total War than Mount and Blade).
- Like KK, Thunder Devs also supposedly works on other games as well besides this one (The Last Haven and MILITARY).
- Like KK's games, Thunder's games also make heavy use of marketplace assets (some of which also appeared even in Freeman, like this face mask. The image is from the store page of their other game, MILITARY.
- Like the dev(s) of KK, Thunder's devs are also not native English speakers, and write in English on roughly the same level as them. Based on the latest announcement of Alecksw, the developer of The Last Haven, at least part of the team is from Ukraine - similar to KK, where the faces of the team (Tina and Melamori) were also Ukrainian, even though they lived in China.
(IMHO, the style and cadence of their games' Store Page descriptions are also very similar to KK's, but that's really just a personal opinion.)
- The Last Haven haven't received any updates since March (according to Alecksw, due to the Russo-Ukrainian War). While their reasoning is of course perfectly understandable, this still lines up with KK's track record of abandoning their games after a while.
I admit that Thunder's performance has been indeed impressive so far when it comes to the update history of Total Conflict, but folks coming over from the Freeman boards have already seen such an early access run, so they'll be more wary regardless, and more difficult to impress. Especially because the dev team has done nothing so far to address the most frequently reported request of the game - namely, making the UI more informative and useful. Needless to say, this was also a problem with Freeman as well.
I went to check Freeman and noticed something that has me back off from this game instantly:
The trailers for both games use the exact same music.
Well, both versions are remixed a bit, Freemans has an added drumbeat for example.
But its basically the exact same song and tweaking or changing a few nuances or aspects is easy work done in a few minutes if you have basic knowledge about that.
Coincidence? Maybe.
OR its the same devs, using the same resources from the other game, to speed up development.
Why bother creating a new trailer and use new assets and music, when you already have all that?
The commenter above mentioned the storepage descriptions seem similar.
How about the games trailers being overly similar up to the same song?
I also noticed similarities in some icons and layouting. Nothing too noteworthy if you just stumbled over these games.
But i was just checking out TC and instantly noticed the trailers seem weirdly similar when checking Freeman directly after.
Mind, i already had Freeman on my ignore list anyway.
Using the same music for both game trailers is such an odd similarity, that in connection with the above comment, i will put this on "wait for potential purchase after release".
It must not mean anything, but since someone already made that connection, using the same music in only 3 trailers total, is a weird coincidence pointing towards pattern.
2. Last Haven still supported , dev team are focused on TCR, Military isnt out yet.
3. Thunder doesnt deny the use of assets. All coding is done by them of course such as physics and general game. The assets are mainly SFX,FX,Cosmetics, vehicles, soldier model etc . While adding to it for example Road textures , Stryker MGS, LAV { it replaced the stryker with the bradley turret } assets are there while adding their own models and replacing others. this is run on the Unreal 4 , FGW is Unity.
4. Russian indie studio multi national devs for those who care for that. KK moved out to Hong Kong later changed their location to ukraine to get sympathy buys. KK also has other company under same studio different name they are actual scammers. While Thunder devs have nothing to do with them in any way.
5. Last Haven still supported but team focus is on TCR for now .
6. their is no turtorial because theirs still is alot that is being added and still subject to change for now we can only recommend check youtube , ive seen few of the Ui and its been addressed ,changed during demo and still faces changes later on. Devs do take suggestion as they have added community suggestions before just give some examples.
Sure, if I had known before I would have waited :/
The coincidence is not that ANY videogame or other context uses them.
The coincidence is that out of two games named in a thread and a game doing the exact same mechanical mix, in the same genre combination with a similar setting use them both.
Its not like "oh i heard this being used on that jump and run game and then i heard it on a radio commercial."
But feel free to relativize and trivialize further.
I have no bet on this game, i dont care.
If you need to convince yourself, fine, to me its a sign i should take a step back and give it till release.
To Casspir:
The difference in engine doesnt matter. You can reuse assets on any engine, textures and especially stuff like layout.
Thats mostly stylistic choices being made, but not only that, often you can reuse the basis of a ressource you have to reuse it later.
Theres tons of games and studios doing this no matter the engine used (or their version differences).
It saves money.
Lets be frank here, you seem to distract for some odd reason.
There are two games named in this thread with a potentially shaby connection.
And out of these two for some reason they use the same song.
Its not like we had a pool of 300 games and two of them used the same song, which is a 0,6 result chance.
It is literally these two games and oh surprise you find odd similarities.
Thats a 100% result chance.
Isnt it weird that the OP names this one shoddy game and users point out odd similarities and then it happens they also have similar trailers with only minor tweaks?
