What I read in a PowerPyx guide was lining up three bells should do it, but that did not work for me. Not sure if that means it's glitched, or if its something else.

i got three bells in a row on my last slot token in one level, then when i went to the next level the first slot token i held X instead of just pressing it (not sure if that had anything to do with it) and it gave me a "galaxian fever" automatically, that gave me the achievement

Yep, just checked by only collecting the melon at the end of level 1 which gives exactly 1000 and a fever triggered.
