So I've been wondering after playing my first run, do the symbols directly correspond to letters? so If I see a symbol that is confirmed A will that symbol be A in all words? (apologies if that made no sense

Yes and no.

They translate to letters, but the same symbol can translate to different letters in different words.

Basically you use Caesar's code to translate.

This game has an alphabet where every symbol has a corresponding letter. These letters however do not translate 1:1 to letters in our alphabet and are Caesar coded.
