Weapons can have the same effects as rings or bracelets.
Each characters have 4 legendaries effects, most being elemental conversion (to only one type).
All accessories can have the same legendary effect, so can go with 6 healing crystals.
Since you worrie about matchmaking, they is some matchmaking but it's all on the Asia server, adjust your timing with the ping.
You decide with your wallet.
IMO, the hype for the game is already gone. You only will encounter high level players playing in most of the content, even low level content. You will be carried most of the time. The challenge of the first times are gone.
I liked the story, but I don't think you came just for the story mode. The multiplayer aspect of the game feels "incomplete", because lack of content. New content is coming so slow.
There is new content coming soon, but I don't think is big enough to catch everyone's attention again, but I could be wrong. We gotta see.
January road map is here:

There is lag playing on the JP servers, you'll get hit 1-2 seconds after evading an attack it's awful, I have 220ms to the JP server from Northern Ireland and it really sours the mood sometimes, going down to 150ms would only help that problem slightly.
Agreed on the hype being gone though, we won't see any big jumps in player count unless they make the game F2P at some stage which probably won't happen.
Aye that really is your only option but it's hard to do so when your brain is hardwired to dodge at the last possible second that visually matches whats happening on your screen cause that's what you've been doing for years playing other games and you're not trained to fight some invisible enemy that wants to screw you over (ping) This is the only game I've played that I've been forced to play on servers that's across the world so i probably won't ever get used to it. While i also do think that it is playable it just ruins the overall experience of the game a bit for me.
I just wish the devs would remove server selection and just merge em all so it'll just put you in the closest server that depends on the location of the players you matched with to make it more fair and ease the suffering a bit.
Well ok if thats how you're gonna be...
OP never asked for any playstyle advice they simply asked if the game is worth buying and i'm just gonna go ahead and say no it's not worth it for new players since as it's been said already the majority of players are at endgame so matchmaking for newer players will be incredibly painful, clearing quests and levelling will be VERY slow, if they change how the tier system works or make some sort of scaling system dependant on your player level so that everyone of any level can match together and get their level respective rewards is when i'd safely say the game is worth buying.
There will however be a x2 player XP boost up to level 50 that starts from Jan 9th - Jan 31st so that would be a great time to pick up the game to help ease with the early game grind, the 1st tier 3 coop quest opens up at player level 45 which is perfect and as for the boss raids matchmaking for even the tier 2 boss raid shouldn't be all that bad at least compared to tier 1 and it opens up at level 40, I'd personally recommend holding off till the 9th and checking back as that's also when a new update will drop with apparently "new content" which better be new bosses and coop quests or at least some changes to free roam but i'm not holding my breath.
The downside to that suggestion though is the winter sale will end by then but what you could do is wait till the last day of the sale and buy it then but not play until the 9th to try it out for real and see if you want to put up with the game or not so at least you'll still be eligible for a refund since there's only a 2 week window for it.
I don't care how dead it gets, I would rather play with non garbage ping
Pretty mixed overall.
+ Plus if you like SAO series and characters.
- Negative if you didnt care about anime that much.
+ Yes
Moronic grindy
I'd say Dynasty Warriors(for example) is quite soft on the grind compare to this.
But they are going to fix a lot of stuffs, especially gears lvl so this game might become easier in the end.
You will rarely be teaming with real people, doesnt matters which servers.
Unless you got friends.
If no friends then you can expect 1 - 2 bots oftenly in your team.
Yeah... its a bit of a mix on this.
Depends on your
1) playtime.
2) contents, early game or late game.
3) zone, NA EU or ASIA
You cannot play most of the contents without being online and to start a stage you need 1 player on each team.
Experiences for a solo-new player can be very bad because you are going to be competitive with a lot of veterans which loves to drag you out of your pace.
There is no learning, if they rushed you need to rushed or be left behind.
And thats the point of the whole game, if you are not commit to put some(a lot) time to grind and get up then you are going to be left behind and we dont have that many players anymore.
(it was great when the game came out back in October but now not anymore)
And we kinda dont have many stages right now for you to be sitting here grinding your Christmas away.
I would suggest you buy the game on discount when big DLC updates(when new characters arrives) then play it like a full time job(or you will miss the train) then relaxing in your retirement state building whoever you like at the late game.
New update will increase the level to 115 so you will probably be missing out anyway even if you start now.
Thats how grindy this game is.
Also, just be aware that this game is online required, including steam active otherwise you can’t log into the game server (in the case of either or both maintenance, you can’t access to play at all). The only exception is the story mode and that’s it.
Anyway, for the contents, there are 3 dungeons and 3 raids with additional limited time extreme raid. The drop rate is extremely low and very RNG dependent so you will need to spend a lot of time on this if you decide to play and waste your time on a chance that might not come at all…
Like ppl already said, Asia is pretty much the only active region for this one now. If you have friends or partners to play with then I would suggest you to play this on other region because of the queue, especially EU. NA is somewhat okish on weekends but not for raiding since you won’t have enough ppl to start a match (especially higher rank ones)
Despite having EAC and online, the game still has cheaters run around so you might see as an issue later on into the endgame. Don’t expect much about customizations for this one though. Pretty much you can’t do a lot of things outside of going with the damage multiplier that going up to 100 millions.
Anyway, I will check list here:
- Game Progression: vertical only
- Game Pacing: moderate to high mobility combat
- Comestic: very low RNG and cash shop limited
- Visual and Graphic: Mid
- Monetization model: Bundle and in game micro transaction
- Game requirement: Multiplayer
- Type of gameplay: Action focus, mission base coop
- Playtime of completion : 20 hours to 300 hours
- Extra or endgame contents available: Yes
- Gallery and Miscellaneous: Digital only
- Others: Crossplay available
I have played all the SAO games outside of Last Recollection and this one...
I enjoyed them quite a bit till really... end game the weird focus on that perfect button press combo system to pump out damage always content blocked me because i was really bad at getting the timing right... probably why i enjoyed Fatal Bullet ALOT more...
I guess I will have to sit this one out as well as much as i'd like to try playing it..
but it just looks like theres far to many CON's compared to PRO's
and dont feel it'd be worth the 47 USD (On sale) price....
not lucky enough to get it for free then i'd be ok with all the issues LOL...
guess ill have to hold out for the next game when ever that might be.,....
Technically, you don’t really need to get perfect combo outside of certain builds that require it (which usually those are bad builds anyway). I would say you can just play it on and off rather than fully invested into like previous SAO game. It’s fine to do so for this one though.
Most of the CONS right now usually around the multiplayer and contents which they barely have much. I think it might be better in future updates when they throw out all the contents that important and some QoL changes that eventually have to make like the matchmaking and the challenge weight to those contents
Honestly, I think it’s fine to give this one a try since it isn’t that bad, just it seems to not really well managed and a lot of ideas that stack on top that conflicted to each other. Hence, the game just look like it isn’t really polished much to pay full price for. I would give this time to see whether they would fix things or not before leaving it be.
