The steam player base is by far the smallest pool of players and not a good indicator of total playerbase.
Bots will ensure longevity and there is no text or voice chat options in-game so it'll really never matter if you have people or Bots. The Bots are better than your average player.
I wouldn't really consider this a live service game like The Division, Warframe, etc. It's really just another action-rpg SAO game with a battle pass and cash shop. It has the bones to be a live service game, but not the content, yet. You'll see everything in about 30-40 hours and anything after that will be how much do you enjoy grinding.
Its pretty laid-back IMO once you get familiarize with the game and do group free roam collecting purple quality loot in the higher end zones.
People are already playing with bots (depending on timezone). Game isn't really that hot after day 1
Playing with bots is not as bad as people tell you...your team bots follow you and this can be more fun than with 4 other player that rush.
If you dont care for skins and dont know anything about SAO, than just wait for a discount and the "next wave of players".
you can play but you'll eat way more attack during boss raid because you have to dodge way more earlier compared to players who live in asia, it would be somewhat fine if the game didnt anim lock you for anything you do and characters like LLEENN dosnt work at high enough ping
basically you'll soon have a huge frustration to be playing in this state, don't buy the game
It's another low budget/cash grab Bandai SAO game so set your expectations accordingly. Meaning it was made as a profit generator and not a game made "with the player in mind".
If you only want to play it because some lame boring streamer played it and you think you need to follow them to be cool or someone on IG/TT "recommended" it then you'll probably be disappointed and upset you wasted your money.
If you like SAO or if you liked Fatal Bullet then it _MIGHT_ be worth it. At the very least this title doesn't force you to play as Kiriko so that right there makes the game better than previous titles.
Player count only shows players on Steam and not on console where this type of game is easier and more enjoyable IMO.
What do you mean this type of game is easier and more enjoyable on console?
I think Fractured Daydream is the perfect Steam Deck game. There is no benefit to playing this on PS5 over PC/Steam Deck. And the Switch version is probably capped at 30.
I think it's a lot of fun to play - sure, it might be repetitive - and the production values aren't the best - but who cares... I have purchased all of the big releases this month and I'm still finding myself wanting to play SAO instead. And I don't even know what is going on in the story.
It might be a cash grab, but the people who were tasked to create this game did deliver a fun experience.
I would even go so far and would say this game is even with 30$ too expensive in a month. If there are too less players to have the full multiplayer experience, it is not more worth than 20$ for its cheap made story mode and too less content for a live service game, what this game want to be. Especially when you have also the ingame store and DLCs in mind.
For me it felt like Bamco need to made such a game to keep the SAO licence. Exclusive licenses often have the condition that they must also be used for new games or you lose the license. The game feels like they were just looking for a way to cram all the SAO characters into one game with low effort for maximum profit.
