Hollow fragment and Hollow realization are the second best, but there are outdated. Gameplay wise. Both are single player with coop elements. Only covers the SAO incident.
Fatal Bullet is great too, but I don't recommend it while this one exist. The game tried to focus on multiplayer, but the netcode was laggy af. GGO world.
Accel World x SAO, Lost Song and both Alicization are okish.
Fratcured Daydream is a great title to, compared to what was released recently. Story's great up until Chapter 4 IMO, it just kinds feels dry at that point. Game play and coop is great too, just severely lacking in content.
Hollow fragment and Hollow realization are somewhat tied for me, however I prefer Hollow realization more. Story and gamplay are great, along with the "fanservice." Hollow fragment covers the SAO incident, and is kind of the best when it comes to feeling like you are in the anime(with the cut scenes. And both allow you to customize Kirito, semi allowing you to take kirito's place with your own CAC.
Stay away from Alicization and Last Recollection, as they are not worth your time and money. Game play for both is really clunky and slow, plus there is a real heavy focus on Kirito.
Accel World x SAO, Lost Song- no opinion.
My favorite one is Hollow realization (for its "huge" weapon techtree like in the anime), and then Hollow fragment (for its hollow area and the SAO"traped in death game" incident).
But both games are outdated (graphics etc), so not recommended for todays audience, which wants high tech graphics.
If you want multiplayer:
- Fratcured Daydream is the only one that gives it to you and is good.
Downside: games lacks of SAO fetures like "weapon training", skill tree, a MMORPG level up system etc.
If you want gameplay (outdated: Get it, if dont bother for graphics.):
1) Hollow realization
2) Hollow fragment
Both games has the best MMO feeling, but are outdated. If you want one of the two, than go for Hollow realization, as Hollow fragment is older has has slower combat (need to wait for cooldowns).
Both games simulate the "i buff me to OP"...you have to reaply buffs every 30 seconds, if you want to be OP.
Story games (Get it, if dont bother for gameplay, have more or less "good" graphics and are not outdated):
- Alicization and Last Recollection
Both focuses on story. Alicization has more "Gameplay" feature like weapon upgrades, costumes etc, but is a heavy story cutscene based game.
Last Recollection lack of gameplay (not weapon upgrade, no costumes), but is technical better.
The good thing: You can switch between all 4 of your party members.
Mix between gameplay and story, but still story focused (outdated: Get it, if dont bother for graphics.):
1) Accel World x SAO
2) Lost Song
Outdated, but still good. If you want one than Accel World x SAO, as this game feature charatcers from SAO and Accel World, which plays different. Get it, if dont bother for graphics.
Only "problem": the flying / air combat fells not so good it and makes it difficult.
The good thing: You can switch between all 3 of your party members.
Fatal Bullet:
Is a anime loot gunshooter spin of, so not a "real" sao game.
Firstly, this game - FD I mean - is pure trash. You need to have a not properly working brain to call it "the best SAO game to date". Just look through discussions with negative titles - it's all true: the game is (not) slowly dying after just two weeks, there are microtransactions, you will be forced to play on asia server with a high ping, there is a HUGE lack of content (like only six bosses/maps you will need to play HUNDREDS of times, again and again - for nothing).
The real best SAO game is...
...did you really think I will name a specific title here? Got you!
Noone except for you can know what game you will like or dislike. There are too many factors - have you seen all of anime's season or maybe even read the original ranobe, what exact part of it you like or dislike, what genres of games you prefer/dislike the most, do you care about the SAO gameverse story (that is different and, usually, worse than original) and so on.
Just answer those questions for yourself and you will have your answer immediately. Every SAO game - except for Last Recollection and this FD crap - had it's own strong and weaker sides. Buy the according game (or at least watch some gameplay), try it for less than 2 hours and if you won't like it - refund it. That's all. All the words "FB is the best!!11" or "No, HR is the best!!111!" is just a subjective opinion of a single individual, so it has no real value. Try for yourself and decide for yourself.
Since when do you answer questions like this without an subjective opinion? Ops i forget that we dont have to have our own opinions today and have to follow influencers.
The games are all part of a "Gameverse"
which is like Sao anime but a lot more people survive
Kirito also gets a lot of new allies and enemies thruout
as for the topic at hand I highly suggest Alicization Lycoris
it was actually pretty big and pretty decent gameplay wise
The story was also pretty enjoyable all in all
just make sure you get the DLC as well
as the DLC is actually worthwhile contentwise
It's followed by Last Recollection
which feels more like an epilogue than a game itself
If you're getting that one just wait till a HEFTY sale XD
I guess I'll stick with those two then, thank you a lot for your help! =D
For example, Fatal bullet had a very good gunplay, but for some reason in Fractured Daydream the enemies have worse hitboxes and weapons have worse accuracy. Ghospet fight was better in FB than FD.
At least the netcode for this game is amazing so you can play in any server without lag. Fatal Bullet lack of that and the multiplayer was a part that I didn't enjoy.
Level design is always lacking in most recent JRPG games. Looks like is a endemic problem in the industry.
This is what you'll get in SAO FD:
A useless and tasteless story. You'll be able to enjoy it if you're between 11 and 15 but you won't understand a thing.
6 poor pieces of content to complete over an eternity until you're lvl 100. That's fine, you're on the verge of game burnout, but at least what you drop won't be fundamentally useless. Of course all this equipment is subject to rng and has a theorycraft and depth close to 0.
Spend several more hours building a character whose gameplay won't have changed since the 1st second you started playing.
If you prefer, you can also get skins that won't drop until you've killed the boss at least 250 times, a skin you won't need of course.
Finally, you'll be able to buy the DLC to redo everything I said above, but with less money and an extra character that everyone else will select before you.
The Rank 100 wall is a problem. I think they found that recently because we got 1.5x Player Rank Boost.
I lol'd with the quote, because I can relate. There is no such thing like "team composition" even though roles exist. Is more like people pick whatever character they like and stick with it. At least there is a lot of item customization, but SAO games always been cryptic and you need to figure out interactions. Also there are maps where people skip everything to reach boss room fast. Is what you expect from a looter game.
