VEIN
Dedicated Server Windows 11 - Please verify instructions - Tuning suggestions
I posted this under another user ask. But, want to know if same experience by others. The only squishy line items are line 5 (unreal library) and 8 (delete game saves). I am not sure if saves need to be removed. I would love to know about other options people are using to tune the server and avoid lag.

I got it working and agree that information is limited. What I did:

0. Open ports 7777 and 27015 on your FW and route to pc running server.
1. Install SteamCMD (instructions widespread on that)
2. StartSteamCMD
3. Login anonymous (or use steam credentials)
3. Install game at SteamCMD command line: app_update 2131400
4. Once completed, need to navigate to ..\SteamCMD\steamapps\common\VEIN Dedicated Server. Run VeinServer.exe or VeinConsole.exe. I prefer console.
5. It will prompt you saying you need to install C+ libraries for Unreal Engine. Install the libraries. This will require reboot.
6. After reboot, navigate to the same location in step 4 and run the veinconsole.exe again. Wait for a bit then terminate the process/stop server if running.
7. Navigate to ..SteamCMD\steamapps\common\VEIN Dedicated Server\Vein\Saved\Config\WindowsServer and here is where you want to customize. I took the settings out of my local non-dedicated/hosted to include these settings: (game.ini)

EDIT: UPDATED GAME.INI (; are commented out fields - remove ; and space to use option)

[/script/engine.gamesession]
MaxPlayers=8

[/script/vein.veingamesession]
bPublic=True
ServerName=SERVERNAMEHERE
BindAddr=0.0.0.0
SuperAdminSteamIDs=STEAMIDFORSUPERADMINACCESSHERE - REMOVE/COMMENT THIS OUT IF NOT USING
AdminSteamIDs=ADMINSTEAMIDHERE - REMOVE/COMMENT THIS OUT IF NOT USING
HeartbeatInterval=5.0
Password=VEINSERVERACCESSHERE - REMOVE/COMMENT THIS OUT IF NOT USING

; AdminSteamIDs=STEAMIDHERE
; +AdminSteamIDs=STEAMIDHERE
; +AdminSteamIDs=STEAMIDHERE

; [OnlineSubsystemSteam]
; GameServerQueryPort=27015
; bVACEnabled=0

; [url]
; Port=7777

The rest of the game.ini options don't format correctly posting...sorry.

8. Navigate back to the veinconsole.exe and startup. NOTE: I did delete the manifest.save and server.save prior to this startup just in case. The server exe recreated them as expected. They are found here:

..\SteamCMD\steamapps\common\VEIN Dedicated Server\Vein\Saved\SaveGames
The server shows up under multiplayer in game if all goes well. I don't know how to connect if bPUBLIC is false. I suspect you need to have an admin connected and then other players join through Steam friends client. I did not modify the gameusersettings.ini. I did not create an engine.ini.

Hope this helps and I did have to do some serious playing to get this to work. Apologies if I missed anything..

Thank you very much
You are welcome. FYI. I tried another install on a NUC and steps were pretty accurate. Step 5 was dicey. The installer for the Unreal library appeared to just hang near the end at 100% completion. However, there was a window behind to reboot. I waited for about 30 min and then rebooted anyway. I don't think it impacted anything. The server ran fine for over 5 hours last night on i5-8259u, 32 gb ram M.2 drive. The only thing noticeable was known lag spikes with hordes or when several zombies teleport across map. Still hoping someone can provide a link for details on server config options.
OK I get where devs are going now. Wholly crap there are alot of options to navigate through on ~ then vein. menu. I'll stop spamming the thread.
