Demo Alpha 2 Ending Soon!

With the Steam Strategy Fest well and truly over, we're due to turn off access to this alpha version in a couple of days! Thanks to everybody who's played, discussed and shared their thoughts and suggestions 😀

So, what'd we learn from this alpha?

- The stun protection system we implemented is feeling good! Stuns still feel strong when stacked, but not at all overpowered like before.
- The game's feeling stable! Almost no bugs came up.
- The game's performance is in a much better position! Especially compared to the first alpha where we found people racing to get to 0 FPS with their infinite stun builds 😆
- Sniper Tower game design is broken.
- Otherwise, game design is at a decent place. Most players are struggling to get past the wave 80-ish mark (without depending on Sniper Towers), which is about where we want it to be at this stage - considering things like the Salvage System don't exist yet.

Overall a healthy set of positive feedback! Of course we have a lot more to work on moving forward, but it's good to know that our efforts so far have been in the right direction, and that the reality of how things play out are in line with what we've been developing towards.

What's next?

- Expect the current alpha to be switched off in about 3 days from this posting.
- For now we're simply removing the Sniper Tower insta-kill mechanic. That behaviour will be replaced with a 100x damage multiplier.
- We need to fill the shortage of stats and boons to add more variance and dilution to the roll pools, e.g., to prevent people from reaching 1,000% cooldown recovery 😛
- We'll complete a little more content to create more strategic options - particularly around trigger-chance based mechanics.
- There's a significant game design change in the works that we're eager to see everybody get their hands on 😉
- We're planning a limited time beta for the demo in maybe 2-3 months!

It's been a long journey, and clearly there's still a while ahead of us. But it's been great to see the game being received well in its current form. It's still going to get a lot better 😀 ⚡

uh oh, new game old problem

Funny enough, i mentioned issues with performance running harder than AAA games on ultra, and they reached out and said that they were not going to support the old game because they are working on a new one. it was believable, but looky now, same old issue. Guess they had no intentions of fixing that problem. on a TD game where the performance is a HUGE issue due to the game ramping up and running harder its sad to see my CPU/GPU go to 88-90% on just the title screen, didnt even want to go in game. What's New in Demo Alpha 2?

We've got a new version of the demo alpha prepared which will be made available for Steam Strategy Fest! But what's changed since the previous?

The first important difference is in how to access the new alpha in Steam!

Previously, this was a "Steam Playtest", but now it's a "Steam Demo". What's the difference you ask? That you need to go back on the main game's Coming Soon page to download the demo again 😅

Note that if you're in early, the demo button won't be visible yet! It will appear during the limited time that the demo is available for the Steam Strategy Fest.

If you played the first demo alpha, you know there's still a lot cooking in the oven over here. Well, here's the main things you can expect from alpha 2:

Some previously WIP content has now been completed, including Rapid-Fire Tower, Sniper Tower and Bomb-Bot.
As per feedback from the previous alpha, some remaining WIP content has been excluded from the build: Lightning Tower and Bull-Bot.
A stun protection system has been implemented that prevents anything from being perma-stunned. This should prevent games from going infinite (in that manner, at least).
A set of new Boons have been added to the game.
Many numerical rebalances have been made, especially in an attempt to give more power to builds that do not focus on debuff and effect radius stacking.
A sick new music track has been added to the Underwater Lair.
A basic Options screen has been added to the main menu with some critical options implemented (especially vsync / FPS limiting and audio volume control!). There are many more options to come later.
The game logic engine has been overhauled to properly utilise multi-core CPUs, so game logic can now be processed at the same time as rendering. This should result in a very significant performance improvement at later waves.

It'll be very interesting to see how you all will play with, and break, our new set of changes 😅 We especially encourage giving the Lava-tory a go if you hadn't already - it puts a very interesting twist on the mazing process!

We are excited to announce that the Demo Alpha of FrankenStorm TD is LIVE!

Thanks for being involved and following our progress! This will be the first public playtest.

It's still early days, and there is a lot still to come, but we've reached a point where it's playable and challenging and we are keen to let you get your hands on it so that your feedback can help us improve and prioritise our next steps!

In this alpha version of the demo there are 3 survival mode maps where you can try to survive as many waves as possible. Later in the full demo there will be a sample of the campaign and different play modes that can also be won, as well as leaderboards, meta progression and much more.

About The Monster

Are there multiple Monsters? And do you ever successfully animate one? Also, Idea: Have multiple Monsters in a mission. The last Monster is your main one, the others you charge up first over time, one at a time. Once animated, those other Monsters run around and help you defend the main Monster. Different Monsters could have different traits, behaviours, boons. Just an idea....
