Devs: Conquering the map is a logistical nightmare
Finally got to the point where I had enough troops and equipment to challenge the nearby alliances. Everything was going alright for a while until I realized the Church hated my aggression. I didn't really care since I was larping as a conqueror and the Church was gonna be my enemy anyway. Unfortunately this meant that every single peasant in my village, agnostics aside hated me. I had -52 "The Church Forsakes my King!" Terror kept things in check but as I took more ground I realized the previous kings I vassalized hated me mortally, (mortal enemy debuff) and each one kept rebelling again and again no matter how many times I went back to put them in their place. At one point I had three different armies running around quelling rebellions. It was extremely difficult, I don't know how I managed it honestly, pure RNG. Eventually I got the necessary 12 vassals to declare myself Emperor except... the Church was at -57 opinion of me and had withdrawn their bishop. I couldn't crown myself Emperor because the message said "no actor available" everytime I tried. I assume I needed my bishop to do it, but he left because the Church hates the aggression. If that wasn't bad enough all my vassals suddenly declared themselves independent and I lost sight over the entire map, so now I'm back to square one :(

Sounds like a history event, I'm actually surprised by how real life it sounds from what you described. Might just get the game because of your post :D

I killed my Bishop but was still able to crown myself emperor. Do you have a temple in your city? You need a temple to hold the coronation ceremony.

Maybe the game needs some sort of "declare an Antipope" late game mechanic if you reach the level described. Then a nice, fun, melodramatic, ultra-bloody church schism develops that must be dealt with.

Who speaks for God? Whoever has the most spears. Or sharpest daggers...

there is an option in your temples to preach denial or something.
What it does is convert Fanatics to defaults ... and defaults to Agnostics.

When turning against the church this is a must.

Also you should have been building a LOT of peasant houses as they promote loyalty and those loyal peasants will stand by you no matter what.

vassalizing in this game is dog$hit at the moment anyway... I've done conquerer bit and they just keep rebelling anyway... even when I am constantly helping them out.

It's completely nonsensical that as the suzerain I have to be constantly sucking up to my vassals to keep them from rebelling... complete BS. Who the hell is the boss here anyway?

Yeah I was very underwhelmed by the Conqueror ambition, sounds like forging alliances is much easier. Otherwise enjoying the game!

Been doing the sermons yeah, wanted to start off early against the church, had three temples each one preaching sermons of doubt. Didn't know that about the houses though!

Yeah I do have a temple, even have the ruler set to give sermons there, just couldn't do the Crown Yourself thing, no clue why.

Would love something like that at some point, for now though I'd settle for a Conqueror ambition that's actually doable :P

Send armies around the map hitting bandit camps to offset that

Can't you purge nobles with "burn to the ground"? Since they are your mortal enemy it shouldn't even give you that many negatives maybe.

kinda sucks that there isn't a dread mechanic to stop vassals from suicide revolts

Sure you can... burn it down settle a new one with your son etc.... but in a few days.. He will get upset that you are attacking "Neighbours" and if he sees an opportunity when your army is a weak after a battle.. he will rebel too.

LMAO ok this is hilariously bad design flaw.

Yeah the whole map management and conquering cities is tedious AF. Its not enjoyable at all.

I mean yeah, you can, but that defeats the purpose I think. I don't want to be king of the ashes and I don't have enough kids to send out anyway :/

yeah totally, the mechanic is stupid, the lord were hating each other then suddenly they get mad at me for subjugating the enemy, I got 60+ relation with that vassal of mine too, so instead of -9 like what the text said it is instant -60.

Seems working as intended, of course your peasants are going to act that way if you go against the church in a medieval society.

You'd have to mine their authority by creating more agnostics, loyalists or even drug addicts if you're going that route.

Might even want to take some of the religious faking knowledge from makhans.
