Why Avast (AVG) scanners recognize this as a malware?
This is because these antivirus scanners still treat old API procedures individually.
Other antivirus scanners are better at combining API calls and system calls using a “Win64 Executable” file.
This tells us that these virus scanners are simply not good for normal users, which should give something to think about.
Why does Avast recognize the “Norland.exe as a virus, well, that's because the API queries are made here:
“Norland.exe” set a windows hook with filter ”WH_MOUSE_LL”
“Norland.exe“ called ‘OpenServiceW’ to access the ‘mpssvc’ service (”Windows Firewall")
“mpssvc” (Indicator: ‘mpssvc’) in Source: 00000000-00005052-00000C6B-10513701160
“Norland.exe“ called ‘GetKeyState’ with parameters {”nVirtKey": ‘27’}
These are the relevant calls that Avast has to complain about.
These calls are present individually in many games, but because a pair of calls play together that are also made similarly in malware, they are detected incorrectly.
i cant even download the game now. it keeps failing
