Wood just becomes neglible at mid-late game when you have proper facilities set-up. This is all discounting Wood Tribute from villages ;-;
Damn that's actually crazy, I got supplied the entire game with one Wood tribute village and 2 Level 3 lumberjacks, even had to stop the 2nd one from running mid-game since there was no need for 200+ wood.
Are you sure you have 5 lvl 5 lumberjacks? Because you do realize that's around 500-600 base wood WITHOUT the management buff, which easily reaches 30% with a management level of 5 and 90% with a management level of 15
It can be indeed stingy at times tho which I like.
Try reading the book halving field fertilisation costs, its a game changer and even reduces ratagaba wood costs to just 10 wood every 10 days, and you should stop logging once you clear a patch of forest on that side, you should instead let it regrow and chop down the other side teeming with trees so you can mass deforestation in the future when you really need it.
I actually agree though that a forestry would be really cool to have, considering it could be a book, and would allow active reforestation.
then you have the book reducing wood costs by 30%...
Trade with neighbours or the trader, which is coming to your town. Otherwise, planing is the key.
Start a new game -> Change one village to pay tribute in wood. Every 4 days, you got ~100 wood.
I work with one lumberjack level 3 to refill the fields and build sometimes a building.
