Are the Mining Asteroids Infinite????
I am playing Boldly Go whereby there is an Asteroid Field being aggressively mined by passive ships. Because of my very slow style of play, I was wondering If these resources run out over time or are infinite. Any ideas??

Opinion is divided on this. I swear I've mined out all the metals, some others on the Discord say they re-spawn some metals. They definitely re-spawn Tilium, as this is needed for the mining missions.

They are infinite, so just dock near a precious ore and get millions from mining without need to do any lame mission :steammocking:

They are not infinite. Even though the values have been increased and are no longer displayed in the Tactical view, examining a save file reveals that the mineral patches have a Quantity that decreases (slowly) as the patch is mined.

Interesting, I wonder if this can lead to random no-win scenarios because other NPCs also mine minerals (sometimes aggressively from the start because it seems to be random ships) and that's pretty much a constant drain on resources.

I currently assume that you need to get in and mine them with your upgraded lasers and harvest the ore before the NPCs waste the deposits with their inferior kit. I assumed that’s kind of where I was in my first A13 play through, then I noticed I had missed one mining system and now I have nearly 2000 stacks of Metallics stored on my production ship ahead of the next update 🤣
These numbers would have been beyond the pale in previous Alphas, the crates have really upped the scale on what each ship can sensibly hold, for obvious reasons.

No they are not. I was playing aroun d with the new storage crates (Alpha 12), parked my ship between metallic and copper deposits, and started mining. There's a shipyard so anytime I was reaching capacity I just sold off and went beck to playing with configs. Eventually I depleted both deposits.

In previous Alphas I've done this as well. It's my default activity in "To Boldly Go..." Also though, in previous versions, this has not held for the other game types. I can pull hundreds of precious ore from an asteroid in the story mode but in anomaly mode I might get 2 or 3.

i made my starting cash mining then zeroed all the asteroids. I then built a fighter and when it came time to setting up my first station there was no ore nearby. Big sad
