Holy crap the file size
5GB for what is basically a SNES rom and some translation patches, even the new animated cutscenes and stuff shouldn't be big enough to get this size, honestly I am kind of surprised.

I still love the game, and think it's worth the money, was just surprised to see how big it was.

Yes is a REALLY heavy file for 1 translated rom

What?! 😵‍💫
That’s roughly the size of a 1080p digital movie!
Surely the intro and ending scenes aren’t anywhere near-
*googles them* They are less than three and a half minutes!
…There’s a little more for the trailer, but that’s still less than two more minutes, so even if they put that into the game…

How is this even possible? No really, I am genuinely curious as to how it takes up that much…

They need to shrink this thing.
Dang! :raphaelTF:

There is literally only 2 cut scenes. Manga ones. That are copied 10 times over. 5 times in english with different subtitles, 5 times with Japanese voice overs, with various subtitles. for both cut scenes

Cutscenes and voice acting is what takes the most space just like every other video game its always cutscenes and audio that take up the most memory.

It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't like 2 videos copy and pasted over a bunch of times, lol

But it seems very excessive here…

…So, total of less than 3.5 minutes each, times 10, is less than 35 minutes.
4.8 GB, according to this thread.

A random digital movie I looked at, about 100 minutes in 1080p resolution, took up about 4.2 GB.

This doesn’t quite add up…

Unless they made those manga scenes in like 4k or something. But why?
I mean it’s a SNES game. So I think the new scenes could stand to be in normal HD so you don’t bloat the game to massive size, especially since they went and copied it for each subtitle+language option.

I wonder, can you just go into the game folders and see the video files in there? And then delete the copies you don’t need… if you try to boot up the game, will it function as long as you don’t play with the deleted videos?

(I heard this worked in some other game… ah yes, I think it was the latest BlazBlue, basically you could actually delete the whole story mode or something.)

The videos are basically uncompressed THEO 1920x1080 and vorbis 48000Hz Stereo. And is done in the least efficient way but also the simplest. A video for each text language and audio language, BUT due to the text being imbedded into the videos, they needed a copy for each text language with english voice and another copy of the same text for the japanese voice. If they just had programmed the animations with the image assets as it was done in the past, it would have reduced the size exponentially XD and there would only be 1 english audio track and 1 japanese audio track. So the game would have weighted like ~250MB tops,

Also each rom is double size of what it was, and since there are a few languages, there are 10 different roms.

Yes every single language has a complete brand new video which increases the game size by a lot.

And now I’ve tested this.

Yes. You can delete the videos with the languages/subtitles you don’t need.

They are here:
…/River City Girls Zero/assets/movies/

Space. Gotta have space. So much space. SPAAAAACE!!!

Note:
The version of the ending video with Japanese voices and English subtitles is named wrong, and crashes in-game.

“Manga02_JPNVO_ENGTXT_JPN” is supposed to be
“Manga02_JPNVO_JPNTXT_ENG”.

(So it’s supposed to be read like “Voiceover is Japanese, text is English.” But this one got partly reversed.)
