DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR'S CUT

DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR'S CUT

I have a grand total of 112 manually given Likes and I'm in the middle of Episode 3 - is something wrong here? Anyone else got this problem?
I've built bridges, generators, placed ladders and ropes in useful places and I have 0 Likes on 99% of my things. I don't know what's going on. Seems like either I have terrible luck or something is bugged about the system.

My Bridge Links is 60+, cause I donated lots of stuff and returned a lot of people's cargo. I give hundreds of Likes to every structure I use. And all I get from people are automatic Likes from people using the roads and from returning their lost cargo. I don't even have automatic Likes on 99% of my structures, they're (almost) all at 0 Likes.

You may think that my placements are awful, but they're pretty typical: a generator at Luden's Fan - a classic generator placement. A bridge that leads straight to Film Director's door - another classic placement. Rope that goes down a certain cliff at the beginning of the forest near Wind Farm. Those are typical, useful locations. Of course I also leave stuff at not-so-typical places, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ - not a single structure has even a single Like? No one has even passed any of my generators?

Does anyone who played recently had a similar experience?

I've made sizable contributions to the road in my game, and only started seeing more likes 45~50 hours in. I've finished a 68-hour playthrough with something like 200,000 likes.

Now my structures barely got likes too. The ones that got the most were a climbing spike I put on top of the entrance to the Collector, and a zipline I put on top of one of the elevated road pieces near South Knot City. And both got something like 45 likes.
Maybe people just aren't playing that much.

I guess less people are playing the game now. I played dark souls 2 late, everyone one was NG+ and I never got invaded once.

you get most of your likes from roads
112 likes given to other players is a red-flag. Give more likes, and expect to get more likes. People like to link up with generous people.

Also typical location placements assuming they really are good could be a reason you're not seeing it. I built a typical bridge once and didn't get any likes. So I dismantled the bridge.

Left the area and came back with another players bridge where my "typical" bridge had been. I upgraded their bridge and started getting likes.

I found I get more likes from bridges being used as time fall shelters then I do with them crossing other locations and try to upgrade other players as much as possible.

It's because of the low player count. Just keep playing it will go up eventually (but slowly). I'm on my first playthrough and I have extremely low manual likes (episode 6) but they've slowly been going up over time.

If you put it where everybody else puts their structures you compete with a massive amount and it might not even show up because a player built their own structure which will prevent yours from ever showing up.
Its a lot about random luck and some structures never get any likes.

I think that part of the OP may have been unfortunate phrasing. Based on the rest of his post and follow-up comments, I think what they were trying to say was that they have only received a total of 112 Likes from other players on their structures. They called them "manually given" to differentiate from the automatic likes you receive from things like transporting lost cargo or completing a supply request a player posted.

Good advice on the remainder of your post, though. I never thought of putting up a bridge just to use against timefall- tend to think of the dedicated shelter structure for that. I'll have to look for some good places to try that tactic.

Yep. And personally I give 1000 Likes (the limit) to most structures I use.

That's what I thought.

The only thing I can think of at the moment beyond what other posters have already said is to try putting "upgrade request" orders on some of your structures. Doing so will at least somewhat increase the odds that your structure is picked when populating other people's game worlds, giving an increased chance of receiving likes.

Unfortunately, I think the game only re-populates online structures for a given player when:

A) They first bring that section of the map onto the chiral network
B) Re-loading a section of the map after the player has removed one or more online structures

If I'm correct on that, it really lowers the odds for later arrivals to the game, since they'd have a much larger pool of other structures to compete against for spots, and not many chances at getting rolled for when the rate of incoming new players tapers off. Hopefully there's some tracking and/or weighting mechanisms built into the system to even things out, but unless Kojima releases such info, all we have is conjecture.

Good luck, and if I happen to see your name on something (I just started a fresh play myself this week) I'll drop some likes on it ;)
It could be that the OP is using older profiles in Bridge Strands and thus isnt getting as many new players to like your stuff.

Forming Contracts once Bridge Links are unlocked? Yeah, if they've contracted accounts that aren't playing anymore that might happen. Though it wouldn't be solely responsible, it could be a contributing factor. Makes for an incentive to occasionally revisit one's list of contracts and maybe shake up the roster occasionally, I suppose.

I believe this would make no sense. If I make a contract with someone - that means I will see their stuff more often - but not vice versa. Why? Well, because many people could just contract me without my knowledge and as a result I would see their structures a lot - this would essentially block me from seeing many other players.

I'm not talking about making a contract with other specific players through the Bridge Links system (which would behave as you said).

On your map, you can target one of your own structures and "Request Upgrade" ("F" is the default key on PC). This will make your structure appear on other players' maps and may give some of them a generated mission to deliver materials to the structure. It's at least worth a shot, and it doesn't cost anything but a few seconds.
