id say leave the materials in those places for later since you may want to come back to the area and build the more useful things youll unlock later
all in all id say focus on getting to chapter 3 for the most part then when that happens slow back down again
If you're really looking into getting to the point where almost everything opens up, then I recommend playing up to at least Chapter 8. You'll get a lot more options and will unlock a means of travel that will help you a lot (no spoilers). Don't worry, subsequent chapters aren't as long as chapter 3. There are two chapters (4 and 7) that are just an extended action sequence.
