Maybe its "dead" as a way of saying that its lost its meaning and is now just a zombie of what it was (being shelved out for remakes that never needed to happen and spinoffs no one bought). Or maybe this Snake could be a villain as a way to say how some never understood what Metal Gear was really about (even though its made extremely clear in each game)
Most likely going to play the role of a villain this time. Kind of like how Raiden in Solid 2 was not what was expected, but was what the story needed.
