EDIT: Both games are on Sony's owned Decima Engine after all. The engine was created by Guerilla Games that made Horizon Zero Dawn etc
Looks to be largely the same. Some new aspects/mechanics at play, and a bit more action orientated to my understanding; but, it will have plenty of exploration of large open environments. Which is most certainly welcome.
If you prefer a different type a game, go play a different type of game.
There are also many other Sony published titles that have done very well well when they came to PC (Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut, Spider-Man Remastered, Miles Morales, and many others) and those like Helldivers 2 where the PC version is by far the most successful platform even during concurrent release - it was even selling in regions where PSN wasn't available as we saw from the shake-up in the past! There's no question that Death Stranding has fans and will sell very well here on PC via Steam.
With all this knowledge, it would be foolish to not offer a concurrent release of Death Stranding 2 on PC, or at least one shortly after the console release. A 1-3 month delay would be soon enough that the hype and interest would still provoke early sales, give a minor lead to PS5 if absolutely necessary, and also ensure that all the PC-centric graphical features and the like have a little extra time for QA. Anything longer is platform exclusivity contracts for the sake of it which has no benefit to the players, but is an outdated player-hostile mechanic that wastes hype and the cultural zeitgeist, frustrates potential players, and discourages purchase at anything close to full price . There are myriad stories of how titles that relied on exclusivity, be it console or other storefront/platforms ended up losing sales they would have made, or delayed and minimized them at best. The vast majority of players are NOT going to "double dip", they're not going to buy a console just to get a hold of one game or another etc... so all it does is discourage and delay potential PC-preferring players from buying., souring their willingness to pay anything close to full price after both the time delay and being treated as less desirable customers. This is particularly frustrating when publishers claim the game doesn't "meet sales targets" or "get the response we were seeking / find its audience etc" when titles lost opportunity by restricting to platform exclusivity, quashing interest, and giving up sales.
There have been multiple games that debuted with console (Sony / Xbox) branding in the marketing predominantly yet the game itself was announced to release concurrently or at least confirm a PC release to come. Hopefully this is the case for Death Stranding 2 and they will confirm a PC release and that its date will be relatively close to the initial launch. There's clearly a very engaged market of potential buyers here on Steam; lets hope they don't waste the opportunity.
The PC version came out in July 2020.
8 month wait.
Director's Cut came out on PS5 in September 2021 and then the PC version came out in March 2022.
That is a 6 month wait.
So DS2 on PC in December 2025 then?
