Are you saying this actually works in game, or are you saying that the devs should have put it in the game and you're surprised/annoyed that they did not?
If it's the latter, I can think of a simple explanation that fits the in-game logic/mechanics. The climbing anchor isn't built to channel chiral crystals from your storage canister over to the carrier. The floating carriers don't float unless they're connected to you because the floater unit runs on your crystal stash. No connection to the stash, no floaty.
If it IS a technique present in the game engine, I'll have to try it out. If I'm using a carrier, I usually just go around the kind of steep drops/walls that would warrant a rope.
I stopped using ropes to climb up and down as often as I used to past the first map anyways because of how often the game resets the ropes to be looped up at the top instead of hanging down the hill or cliff side. (This is also why I set very fussy pixel perfect ladders by the collector, instead of a rope.)
That is a much bigger headache first. After all even if you could bring a floating carrier up a rope, you need the rope to not prank you by reeling itself in so you can't even use it without going up the hard way again.
it got even worse when i tried to release the rope on the ledge, because grabbing the climbing anchor button took priority over "attach carrier". thankfully i eventually got it down by climbing to the top, shift my position, and then land ontop of the floating carrier till it fell off the ledge :P
