Humble Choice key to upgrade my already bought version on steam?

Hi,
has anyone bought the Humble Choice Bundle with the Directors Cut yet and tried to upgrade from the default Steam version?

Is it possible to upgrade to the DC with the Humble key, when you already have the game on Steam?

Here is a workaround in order to access both versions of the game from your Steam Launcher:

Click on Help and then Steam Support in the Steam desktop app.
Search for DEATH STRANDING.
Choose "I want to permanently remove this game from my account" and follow the instructions.
Activate the DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR'S CUT Humble Choice code.
In order to restore your original copy of DEATH STRANDING to your Steam Library, please do the following:

Click on Help and then Steam Support in the Steam desktop app.
Search for DEATH STRANDING.
Choose "Can't find this game in my library".
Select Restore.
You will now have DEATH STRANDING and DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR'S CUT in your Steam Library.

Special thanks to Steam user awg for sharing this workaround and for getting it to those players in need so quickly!

Try this - it might help.

Thanks a lot! I did remove the original from my account. After that the DC Key from HB worked just fine (at least for me).

You're welcome. You can also restore the original game in the same Support tab and have both OG and DC.

No, unfortunately not. I had a problem when I got one achievement after purchase on Steam and getting inappropriate content with it (Steam store glitch, or something like that). I have contacted support and they told me that stats or achievements you already obtained cannot be reset.

Also I doubt that achievements from original game can somehow transfer to the DC version. But I might be wrong because I can't neither confirm nor this. Maybe it is possible if you are able to use your save file from the original game and the DC version is supporting achievements synchronization - in this case this could work.

i did same with tekken 7 DE, 6 months ago, dumb way

Won’t that permanently remove original from my account? Because that is what it says on Steam. I am having same problem with Death Stranding Directors Cut, and I am not sure about it, but would love to do that if it doesn’t mean that I lose one of them.

I have done this with different games, mostly with Pillars of Eternity trying to fix the steamstore related bug.

It works like this: Remove the license that prevents you from activating the DC version package - Activate DC - Restore the previously removed package to my account.

It is a well known issue with different packages for the same game. This is how people discovered to activate the Control Ultimate Edition on Steam when they had the Standard version.

Wow, you helped a lot by telling us this, I just did it and it worked, thanks a lot! I’ve never before had to remove game to install another, so I was unsure about it at first, but then you said that you have done it many times before and that encouraged me to do it. You're very welcome, Jaro!

It simply works like advanced "Hide this game" feature in the library: you delist the license (package) for this game and lowering the overall game number on your account. Everything related to this "removed" game doesn't go anywhere: you still have you achievements, stats, and you also eligible to the trading cards booster if you gathered all the card drops previously. When you restore the game - everything gets back as if you never removed it.

so if you own DS on steam but not the directors version, you either need to buy the directors upgrade?

Why didnt they just upgrade the original game for owners, all it is basically a bug fix upgrade isnt it?

There is enough content to justify the cost for me, several little additions for people who want to keep playing.
