In Game Music
What I would like to know is, why did they even bother to put all this extra music into the game? Normally the point of it is to introduce and showcase music from new, or little known artists. But if I was one of the people who's music they put in the game, I would be pissed. It showcases and introduces next to nothing!

First, there's no real in game music player. So we can not pick a song, and start it to listen to it while making deliveries. You have to wait for the game just to randomly start one, and this usually happens when you're close to where you are delivering to. So after about 2 or 3 lines into the song, it stops because you're at your destination. Or it starts while you're mid run, and after 2 or 3 lines, there's a BT or one of the annoying NPC's contacts you through your cuff-links and once again, the music stops. You never get to hear more than a quarter of any given song.

I can sit in my private room doing nothing and listen to the songs, but again, you're just sitting there doing nothing, accomplishing nothing, just to listen to music. I started the game because I want to actually PLAY the game. I didn't start the game up so I can make my character sit in a hole not moving just to listen to the music. I can do that WITHOUT the game. I can save electricity by turning my computer off and just throwing one of my Pink Floyd CD's in the stereo. I don't need the game for that.

So what's the point of it? Why even HAVE it in the game if you're not going to let people listen to it while they play?

Pretty damn pointless if you ask me.

I believe the music was not added to show case anything. This is a Kojima game and it is all about they way he wanted the game to feel by setting a mood and does that pretty good.

You are lonely in the game and the music should come on at a point when not much is happening and allow you to step back for a second and appreciate what is happening either around you or in the story.

He didn't want an in game music player as this would affect the way the game is perceived and played. It is all about pushing the experience he wanted you to have from his story being told the way he wanted you to hear and see it.

After all this is his story and he wanted it told this way...
And nothing is stopping you from playing any music you want with your favourite media player.

My solution for listening to music and gaming
I use wireless headphones for my gaming and they allow for a simultaneous Bluetooth connect as well... makes it easy to use mobile phone to play music during game play and as a bonus not miss any calls while you are rocking out and blasting baddies :D plus I have ALL the music I need already on my phone.
This way I can separately adjust volume for music and change tracks with out alt tabbing from the game.

I do believe it is possible to play any game sound tracks you own via the Steam overlay's sound track player. (used to be able to play any mp3's but that was stopped back at the start of 2023).

There is a way to add tracks to the Steam overlay player =

But this is not ideal especially if you have more than a handful of songs as it could get awkward and time consuming.

i could kiss you on the fricking face right now.
TO OP - The game isn't just a game, it's an experience. The "video game" aspect of it is a tool, used to tell the story. yes, there are points where you're doin your own thing, and music would be nice, but i'm pretty sure you could legit go through the game primary mission to primary mission, without having to worry about infrastructure. That part of the game is on you, and how you feel about playing the "game" part of it.

TLDR: chase whatever dragon you want, but you should know what dragon you're chasing, and if that dragon is the one you want.

But the game also does not include any way to adjust the Music Volume; which is just beyond stupid. I'd like to just turn all in-game music volume to 0% so I can enjoy my own music. Like I do for many games.
