Latest patch finally fixed the Access Violation (C0000005h) crash!
Super Early Spoilers kinda
I had basically completely lost hope, cause I tried basically every "fix" on the internet, and even tried going back and forth with 505 support for weeks. Didn't even see that the game had updated until now and I decided to give it a shot and I can FINALLY play more than a few minutes without encountering a Access Violation (C0000005h) crash! managed to not only get past the incinerator after needing to rush home to talk to Bridget before she dies, but I did that, and managed to get all the way to Port Knot City in one play session, which is huge I could not do that before, it used to crash every 3 minutes if I was lucky, 30 seconds if I wasn't.

Like seriously this is great, and I'm wondering how many other people it might finally work for too. Anyone else here benefit from the patch like I happened to?

Patch 1.004, from last month. I hadn't even seen that the game was patched, and I can finally play it after having it rot in my library for like a year or 2, I'm so ♥♥♥♥♥♥ happy

I don't think so because when i gave it a try recently it crashed as i approached Lake Knot City with my truck. Mind you i never had any problems before with this DC version. The OG liked to crash here and there around the Timefall Farm.
So my assumption is that graphics drivers also play a big role in this.

I like to think it could be both, I always keep my drivers up to date and only after the patch can I play the game for hours at a time now. I haven't experienced a crash since.

what do you think with RAM? Do you really think there is problem with ram if there is no problem with almost 200 other games?

i have the same issue. i lowered my cpu voltage and suddenly, issues like these and nvidia's nvlddmkm.dll crashing got fixed from it. (somewhat. it's mostly a workaround.) i looked up the error code 'C0000005h' for the games that crashed because of it, cyberpunk, hell even minecraft did. as it turns out, it is a ram fault - at least from what i've seen, that is.

Cmon, it is not a problem with computer. Why would you do something with Voltage? Anyway, I lowered it before a time and this is not a my problem.

I contacted 505 Games and they worked on it, they think it is something with DirectX, but without results in this time.

I played the game yesterday for the very first time and had that specific access violation right after exiting the incinerator to the right.

What helped me was disabling steam overlay for the game and excluding the executeable ds.exe from windows exploit prevention. No crashes since then.

Seems like the culprit is some wonky implementation that interacts with external 'forces'.

in my case, it definitely was. i've had these issues twice on two separate computers. it literally is a hardware failure. that's what the error code is anyway. each case is different, but what i did fixed, or at least mitigated any problems and i can play pretty much every game flawlessly.

There has been many many people that have reported that changing some hardware aspects has helped. It personally didn't help ME, the last patch did.
