Music interruption has ruined my experience
I'm playing the game for the first time.
There are very great points and also a lot of very bad points.
One of the worst to me is the music interludes being badly scripted/timed and triggering when i'm only a few feet away from my destination... Making it stops after 20 seconds.
This is happening like half of the time and absolutely destroys every moment it happens.
I'm not even talking about threats also interrupting it (which is again lame but that's another debate) but the fact the music interludes during your walk are not correctly timed is a real bummer and certainly one of the reason the frustration & overall problems with the game outweights the pros.
This is basic scripting and story telling that is not done right.

yeah whenever the songs start now adays i generally just stand still and look at the scenery as i listen as its just too easy to interrupt the music. sometimes it depends on the angle you took to get there for it to trigger with enough time for you to listen to the song.

I agree with you that its too easy to ruin the moment so i just do my best to preserve it, sometimes i turn around and walk the other way for a bit just to walk and listen lol.

quick way to stop the music is open the map. Pretty daft.

Yes that's what i force myself to do now. But it feels unnatural so still ruins it a lot :(....
Also when you say "When the song start nowadays" do you mean the songs keep playing randomly after finishing the game ? If so, that would be appreciable indeed.

FWIW - BB enjoys the games soundtrack music when it pops up during the game when you're going about delivering. A BB that is near autotoxemia will heal a little while the music is playing. So, a red BB bar can turn orange while you listen to the music. Again, near autotoxemia, not fully in autotoxemia. I was just completing the mission where you collect the Junk Dealer's girlfriend and I observed it happening, which reminded me of this thread.

Songs don't trigger during the end game period. They only trigger during narrative events.

But, given that BB likes the game music it should (emphasise should) recharge a BB when music plays at a generator or a shelter if the music is playing while you're in the vicinity. I haven't tested that yet. Never thought about it til I was typing this reply.

Interesting detail (game progression soundtrack healing BB) I didn't know about. Thanks jake.

It's neat to find out new things after playing this game 1000 hours.

IKR. I was pretty surprised when I noticed it.

I did try the timefall shelter after typing my reply. I rocked up under someone's shelter near Thomas Southerland's place, changed the music and then looked at BB while the music was playing. It may have been a slightly accelerated healing time but I didn't stopwatch it. I did record the process but I am yet to watch it back to see if I was right.

But BB is a big fan of the in-game music. I have a few other things to try with it yet. This also partly explains why we didn't get a personal music player for the open world. It's also an argument FOR having a personal music player. Still, there's always the musician :lunar2019grinningpig:

My initial impression about a few of these game features was: "ok there's no exposition about this thing and it seems like an afterthought" ... only to find out much later that, no actually they actually did think about most of these small details deeply. It's evident now. But there's so many decisions to make before the schedule runs out and the game needs to be shipped ... maybe they deadlocked on game music.

Anyhow, the way some of these things were put in, I feel that most video games just don't do this. Or at least, not in this way. They're not quite easter eggs, they're something else that normally I'd call "polish".

These are what I call "Hideo Kojima-isms". He gives you enough detail to play but rewards proper experimentation with his games. These are the things that separate out HK from other developers. Maybe Yoko Taro has a similar philosophy to game design, but I have only played 2 of his Nier games.

One of my favourite HK-isms were the "girly magazines" from MGS2. Rotten food from MGS3. Or that the quickest way to defeat Olga on the tanker isn't headshots, but belly shots.

I tend to find his games genuinely reward repeated play through.
