Been playing the game for 2 hours now and so far it's only a walking simulator with a good story. Hope it get more exciting later

Imo Death stranding is anything but a walking sim. If Death stranding is a walking sim then so is any zelda, The elder scrolls, horizon zero dawn, dark souls etc as well. I mean sure, you do walk a lot in death stranding but that doesnt mean its a walking sim.
There is lots of stuff to try out, keep experimenting with the things you get as you progress in the story.
Yeah i got the granades and killed a "boss" with them, probably the most clunky engagement i had in a game. But next thing the quests tell me to go to a port to deliver. When i get close it tells me to stop and do other tasks instead, but the main quest is just throwing me into rainy areas filled with BT spam, its just so damn tedioius to play, having a hard time to even want to load up the game again, its that bad.
Game is just filled with clutterness, horrible UI and rainy BT areas, i just fail to see the fun. Its just a beautiful sandbox filled with tedious stuff.
I want to like the game, but its just so damn bad. Imagine paying for this, i would be so upset.
Seems like you have just finished the tutorial level, you are not supposed to head on fight BTs yet, sure you can do it with grenades, but its way easier with (stealth) weapons later on. For now just focus on unlocking roads/items and most IMPORTANT: STRENGTHEN BONDS WITH NPCs to at least 4 STARS. This will give you lvl.3 upgraded items making the game way more easier and thus more fun.
Dont look at DS the way you do with other games, i did it too when i first played it on ps4 and it was a mistake. DS is for the most time a game on how to tackle terrain while managing cargo and on every further objective is built around that core gameplay.
If that confuses you just imagine MGS5 built around mountain climbing.
For some it may be boring, for me its way more "fun" (keep in mind that "fun" is different for everyone) than most other games as i can just relax and focus on making new zip-line routes for mountains lol
You get them pretty early in the story if you just speedrun the objective missions. From the start you can make the maser gun which is a short-range electrical arc weapon which stuns guys, you can get smoke grenades that double as gas grenades, stun grenades that you can detonate at-will, decoy smoke and decoy "vog" which is knockout gas that both explode when the mules/terrorists open them, and eventually a fully-automatic rifle with nonlethal bullets (as well as lethal but obvious problems with just offing guys), and other stuff I'm probably forgetting.
Edit: You can also use the strand which you always have for tying up cargo, as a weapon to parry melee attacks, and to wrap up dudes from behind. As far as I can tell, it also permanently kills Unger's soldiers that are on overwatch if you get them with it which is super ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ handy. And the bola gun insta-knockouts if you get a headshot with it.
There's a lot more to the game if you view it through the lens of a stealth-action rather than a delivery game, which while it definitely is I'd argue with the zip-lines and highways and such, it's more of a planning game than anything. For BTs you get blood grenades, a blood "handgun" that really functions more as an anti-BT handcannon, the cufflinks for stealthy BT kills, and again probably other stuff I'm forgetting.
Spoilers: When you get dragged by a BT after getting caught, a huge BT shows up that you can either run away from or fight, a few of these are mandatory to do as part of the story. A big thing with BTs is that if you hit them with a hemo grenade to cover them in blood, you can shoot them with regular bullets for a good amount of damage. You can also shoot through the cloud and it'll work as the bullets are obviously covered in blood on the way which is cool.
Edit: All of these can be upgraded btw by five-starring the places where you originally get them at. A LOT of the upgrades are actually from certain "standard" missions as well as ranking up the connection levels with preppers and knot centers.
I beat the original on the hardest difficulty and I'm doing a run currently on the DC on the highest difficulty, the combat in the game is very even-handed in that it's more down to skill than just "big difficulty = big numbers" which I like a whole lot about not just this game but Kojima games in general.
Double edit: I'm on chapter 4 I think, and I've got maser, bola 2, stun grenade 2, and smoke/decoy vog. I'm at the mission where you have to make the first delivery to mountain knot, and I'm about to raid repeatedly the mule camps south of the Elder for construction materials for the roads. I've already raided them at least twice each previously. To put a more definitive answer on 'when' you're able to really take them on. You can definitely do it with just a bola gun and smoke grenades though if you're sneaky enough though. Bola + maser is a really good combo as you can shock the guys you can't manage a headshot on rather than having to kick them.
As for personal top five games - this is top five.
It is typical Hideo Kojima in style and presentation. The story is cerebral to the point of obtuse at times and does require a fair bit of suspension of disbelief. And reading. A huge amount of trial and error.
I really like it and that's why at over 300 hours I am only half way through the story.
The game feels really limited at first and it really plays quite a typical RPG the more you open it up. But the game only gives back what you put into it. If you don't put the effort on, you won't have a great time. It's not always about the dopamine hit, even though you do all your jobs for "the likes". Sometimes it is just about stopping, looking around and appreciating the vistas. Going tourist mode and walking about, talking photographs, is an option too at times, which can be rewarding. Especially if you know your way around a mirrorless or DLSR camera. This game easily has one of the best photo modes I have ever seen.

ok so when i try again i'll skip the 3hrs of cutscenes+speed run the first pizza deliveries and get to the meat and see what that's all about.
Steam is the go-to place for game-specific message boards and has been for well over a decade, where else are they going to discuss the game they are, or were, playing? National Geographic dot org?
I forgot that at around iirc episode 7 or 9 of the game you get a multi-missile launcher as well.
Yeah I can agree with some of those points, I just finished the game... on hard, if that means anything. But my experience was fairly positive, there's quite a lot I enjoyed, some stuff I disliked.
I will say though, once you get your hands on the Hematic grenades, those are genuinely really good for dealing with BTs in early game, but if you're keen on stealth, you can sneak past them. And even on some occasions just make a mad dash thru a BT area, I've done it quite a few times, usually hit or miss as to whether it works or not. Though, if you do get caught by a BT, and they get you with that black tar stuff, and the dudes are trying to grab you, yeah that, as soon as you get hit by the black tar pool, pull out your Hematic grenade and toss one at your feet. Then as more dudes spawn toss them at your feet as you need, until you get clear of the black tar pool.
And I don't think you need to kill a boss, unless the game specifically tells you you need to kill this boss etc. Most of the "bosses" you can just run past and all the way out of their "area." Which will despawn the boss and more often than not the timefall will cease.
One thing I agree with is the UI, it's not awful, but it's pretty hard to navigate at first, but eventually you get used to it.
I think by far some of the worst things for me anyway, was some of the bosses, like the main line bosses. I don't want to get into the spoilers and all, but let's just say some of the bosses are super annoying to deal with, maybe that's just cuz I was playing on hard... but still.
What I can advise though, bring plenty of Repair spray cans, like I said I usually bring 4. Once you get the power exoskeleton, that'll be your best friend for awhile, least until you get your hands on the all-terrain exoskeleton, then... that is a true lifesaver.
Bring ladders, usually 1 will suffice.
Bring climbing anchors, again usually 1 is fine.
Plan your paths ahead, if a path is too steep looking, you might be able to find or create a way over it. I've done that with a lot of cliffs, sheer cliff, no problem, just cheese the vaulting over obstacles, and just hold left click and right click... and hope for the best. Then if you need them, you have ladders and climbing anchors to make it even easier, you just have to be a lil creative about getting to an objective.
My personal opinion is that it is easily one of the most unique story-driven experiences I have ever played in a game. Both the gameplay and the story are so incredibly unique and like nothing else, that I had so much joy playing it from start to finish. Not to mention my wife liked the BB haha.
That is not to say it is for everyone. If you are looking for an action packed shooter, this game is not that, although I enjoyed the combat sequences. It really is about the journey and not the destination in this game. What makes it so cool is the social aspect to building, plotting your course before setting off on the journey, and the many upgrades you can make along the way to make traversal easier and more intuitive. It also ticks the box for those of use who enjoy inventory management. This game really capitalizes on that.
There are some very frustrating sequences to the game, but to me they felt like Kojima's way of adding intensity to the journey. There are going to be a lot of naysayers to this game, forever and always, but if you are looking for a unique experience, enjoy inventory management, and enjoy a wild story (and sometimes overly drawn out in Kojima fashion), then there is no reason why you could not enjoy this game.
The story is indigestible arthouse guff - upon meeting Heartman in person, my suspension of belief was completely broken and I simply started to skip the plot. Tsukihime, Policenauts, and Lobotomy Corporation all are far superior to Death Stranding from a narrative standpoint. I mention this, because some folks would say I lack patience and intelligence, when that clearly isn't the issue here. The story simply tries to sound articulate, but ended up being a severe case of "tell, don't show".
Please play Lobotomy Corporation, if you want a narrative that is actually intense and imposes genuine hardship on the player. The core suppression reflects the trauma of the staff, along with making those scars very much your problem.
When it comes to the gameplay of DS, it feels like it falls short. For example, you can't chain up tires to better handle snowy conditions, nor can you tie up ropes in a daisy-chain fashion for river crossings. Stuff that basically makes it more realistic and rewards a prepared traveler. BT fields are the worst when in a vehicle, because there is no external Odarek to point out the nasties. That sucks when you got lots of cargo, and BTs soak up too much blood on Very Hard to clear out a route. The game would have been much better with a single and well-balanced difficulty, rather than trying a Goldilocks approach.
Gameplay-wise, there is a superior game focused on traversal mechanics that dispenses with the kusoge plot: Ancestors Humankind. You guide and evolve your lineage of apes over millions of years, seeking and finding stuff to ensure the survival of your troupe. All the while, you start developing the abilities and traits that lead towards becoming human. For example, how to coordinate both hands. Far more realistic and interesting than Kojima's umbilical magic woo-woo in Death Stranding.
Hopefully DS2 focuses more on navigation, ditches combat, and leaves out the mediocre plot of an unrestrained Kojima (get an editor!). That may make a game worth playing and recommending. DS1, unfortunately, is an experience that doesn't justify itself.
TL;DR: Ancestors - Mankind is the better navigation game, as you will lose plenty of apes from your lack of judgement. LobCorp is far superior on the narrative front, being able to articulate and deliver an ethos - "Face the Fear, Build the Future", where you and your employees have to overcome pain to reach that final day.
