I enjoy hiking IRL, and I enjoy the fact that someone managed to simulate it in a game.

Most "walking sims", and games where you can sorta go hiking (like Skyrim), there's no mechanics to it, just press forward and sometimes turn. Death Stranding actually has mechanics for dealing with balance and momentum and such, so even if you're just walking, you're actively engaged with the mechanics, and the more dramatic the terrain, and more encumbered you are, the more engaged you are.

If this is a non-game, then so is a flight sim.

TBH, I'd love to see these mechanics get incorporated into other games like the Fallout or Elder Scrolls series. The devs here have figured out how to make encumbrance feel realistic, natural, and integrated into the action instead of just an abstract number where you arbitrarily cant run anymore. If that happens, that will have made this game's existence worthwhile regardless of anything else.

Combine this with a similarly well-conceived injury system (instead of just abstract HP numbers), and you have the basis of a new survival game genre.

There's a lot to unpack about the psychology behind "if I don't enjoy it, anyone who claims they do must be lying" type assertions, but since those are indistinguishable from troll posts, there's no point. Either way you're dealing with some implied type or degree of antisocial personality disorder.

They had a brief lift because Kojima liked their music, which then leads to Kojima fanboys pretending to like their music, but outside of that they have seen no success. Nobody cares. It's generic, it's by the numbers, it's below average.

I really like this game! It's original--I've never seen or played anything like this. Did a lot of walking in Skyrim and the Witcher 3 (if you got tired of the horse), and people didn't mind that. This game is like a breath of fresh air from the cookie-cutter stuff that is so prevalent these days. Game has a changing and evolving story, and has a high emotive content--which I do like, although I am generally not touchy-feely...;) I like the story--it draws me in--voice acting is excellent I think, as well as the acting by the human models in the game. When I was a boy I watched Lindsey Wagner as The Bionic Woman...;) She still looks good! But one size does not fit all. That's we have a huge selection of games to choose from.

Oddly satisfying is how I feel about it. Yes, way to many cutscenes, the only super annoying one is the one you can’t skip, “BT scary Sam’s pinwheel time”. If I find myself having to traverse through a specific BT area frequently I will just get caught and deal with the catcher to temporarily cleanse the area to get some peace.

There's youtube and twitch, both of which I checked in on because I felt like the game may not be for me, so far, 12 hours in and I havent even left for the port yet, Im having a great time. But also, thanks for this intense thought out over view of the game, you brought something new and fresh to the conversation.

Well Death Stranding has a lenghty start, if you cant see through that and dont recognize the glimpse beyond you sadly will miss out on a very good game.

Which is ironic because not only the start nor the game is like that but also the story and narrative.

Its maybe even intentional... who knows kojima is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane.
