Roland has to be the dumbest character in the game.
Some spoilers for chapter 14

So we take Roland's plan and sneak into the city, kill our enemies and meet his sister and Avlora. Instead of taking off his mask and saying hi to his sister, he just starts a fight with Avlora?

This could've 100% been avoided if he just took off his mask and said Hi to his sister, she would have ordered Avlora not to fight her brother. Instead he keeps his mask on like an absolute idiot and forces a fight.

I thought the writing was supposed to be good, but this feels so contrived.

And the writing of this game is not good. Probs for making it through 14 chapters.

Writing in JRPGs never evolved after 2000s and you start seeing patterns after playing a couple.

I'm sure a young guy has no issues enjoying something like this if it's one of his first games but the amount of false logic/anime nonsense made this unbearable for me once I reached the sand town or whatever it's called.

It's a shame since the visuals/gameplay have potential but you're better off playing Tactics Ogre Knight of Lodis or Let us Cling Together/Final Fantasy Tactics for a complete package.

Even Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced is deeper than this Game of Thrones slop.

I've honestly never played a JRPG where I thought the writing was exceptional, and I've played tons of JRPGs over many decades.. The fact that so many of them retread their own themes and ideas has led to more decay than innovation.

It's one of those things where you need to view the characters as a character instead of judging them by their decision making skills. Yeah, Roland is dumb. He has major issues. And instead of growing by solving them, he gets worse. Being obsessed with revenge isn't the half of it.

That said, the way you view certain characters might change depending on what paths you take, even if when the paths align the character acts pretty much the same. In my first play through I made pretty much no utility choices, which by the end had me thinking of Serenoa as honorable and duty-bound. Got pretty ticked off at Roland (though appreciated the writing).

A thing that is weird is that he talk about "when he'll be king" at a moment where his brother is still alive.
I dont fully remember the chapter too, I think it was when the 3 nations were fighting "friendly".
Idk if it was a mistake from the translation, or on purpose, but I was like "maybe he's working with the enemy ?" because of that. '.'
Then I realize that he might be an enemy from his own behavior anyway, with everyone looking at it with poker face without doing anything, they probably cannot go against his will either in a way. : x

The writing insultingly bad even by JRPG standards
