Ive seen reviewers claim the game is like 75% dialogue and 25% combat, is that really the case?
I cant make up my mind about getting this game without knowing for sure.

That's overblowing it a little.

There's a lot of story, this is true. There's a single story battle per chapter, but you can fight 'mock battles' as much as you want. And battles can take quite a while, especially if you're playing on normal or hard difficulty.
I would say it's closer to 50/50 in terms actual time spent.

Also interesting is that they announced the game would get updated at some point (hasn't happened yet) to allow you to go back and replay story battles....

The first 3 chapters are awfully paced and have an extreme amount of exposition, but later on it evens out. The average pace is about 1 hour of cutscenes (on auto play) followed by 1 hour of combat (on normal difficulty). Having said that, if you're impatient, you can turn off the voices and speed read the dialog.

Why would you need to turn the voices off?

Cause it's less distracting to read in silence instead of interrupting each voiced line mid sentence?

You do you, I guess?
Many cool people turn off the voices. Although you could hopefully switch to JP voices ftw. If you cannot then I don't blame you for turning off the fail dub voices

I almost exclusively play games for the "game" part. Id rather watch films if I want a good story.

However, this is one of the few games that has me wanting to know what happens next. I find the balance between story and gameplay is okay so far. It is only in the first 4 hours you will feel like you are just watching awful anime, then it picks up. The writing is piss poor, but overall plot is actually exciting. Has a game of thrones political feel to it.

The combat is also ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ superb, Id buy it for that alone tbh

If you're enjoying the twists, I implore you to never play NG+. It completely shatters the illusion of choice, as you find out that NOTHING matters, the game might present a seemingly crucial choice, but then both outcomes lead to the exact same main story path 1-2 chapters later.

I used a guide to get the true ending route on my first run, then started NG+ to see the opposite choices and recruit the remaining units, and it's really mind blowing how picking completely different choices leads to exact same outcomes.

The whole choice system here basically only exists to lock off the true ending path (a fair bit of content, 6 missions total), which is just a d*ck move.

thanks for the responses, it seems not to be for me. Maybe on a very deep sale.

I dunno about 75/25.....but their is waaaay too much dialogue. FFT managed to put a bunch of it's awesome story into the actual gameplay, Triangle failed miserably at that. As painful as it is, it's still a great game. I'd give it a 7/10. would be a 9 or 10 if not for that.

In the early game, it's roughly 15 minutes of cut-scenes in between every single mission you do.

People are exaggerating a bit, but that is still a lot of cut scene.

Maybe if you're reading at the speed of light and completely skipping the exploration and voting sections. I was timing my gameplay sessions in the mid-game and it's easily 50+ min of cutscenes (on auto-play), exploration and voting before you finally get to a battle.

Early game is not that different except the battles themselves are very short, maybe 20 min max, so it feels like all you do is watch Game of Thrones but with inane anime dialog. The difficulty finally picks up around the bridge mission which is Chapter 6.

The pacing of this game is awful. And it's a pity, because both the story and the combat are great. Too bad it so badly paced.
