Quest 3 Store Buy or Steam (VR Support)
I'll be honest, I've been out of the VR game for the better part of a year give or take.

Just picked up a Quest 3 and its pretty dope. Should I wait till the game drops on Feb. 13th via Meta Store OR get it on PC now.

My PC is old... lolo

GTX 1080TI / i7 4770k, 16 GB Ram / SSD

Can my system run this game? If I do a "Steam Link" situation would that be an alternative. I am able to play Half Life Alyx some what decently

Thanks all and Happy Holidays!

they suggest a 2080 super minimum. You probably would be able to play but would need to lower the resolution and graphics settings a lot and it probably still wont run very smoothly so I think you should wait for the quest version. The game also got a lot of issue that need fixing right now so It's probably a good idea to wait anyway.

Ahh, damn yeah thats what I was afraid of. Thanks Ikea! Are you pretty familar with Quest 3? If I get it via 'their store' , I am assuming the graphics probably aren't as nice right?

tks

I've got a 4070 Super and am struggling to get this looking decent on Meta Link, so I think you'll struggle on PC.

i would argue that the graphics would comparable to what your hardware can achieve with the pc version. since the game still has many bugs that block progress among other issues i would just wait if i was you.
i dipped in early and am regretting it. i am nearly finished with the story, but got hit by a bug that makes me unable to move on. the devs claim to be aware of the issue but still i cannot continue to play since nearly 1 week.

Your PC won't run it.

I have a 3070 and the game runs like ass. Get it on quest with reduced visuals unless you plan to upgrade in the near future.

Is it a crossbuy on the meta store? Quest+PC?

Does not seem to be cross-buy applicable.
i run 4080 with i9 processor - quest 3 and i cant get it to run at all with a link or through virtual desktop. it doesnt even startup. its the only game i have issues running. i ve asked servious and steam vr support but neither could sort the issue. so i ve had to ask for a refund and will wait until it drops natively on quest 3. edit - just found the reason for not firing up....had an open XR plugin running for my motion compensation - disabled that and all is fine. so far great game !

For games that exists on PCVR AND Quest, it's a case by case scenario.
If they are correctly optimised on PC, then the PC version should look a bit better. Even on your 1080-based computer. It still has much more power than a Quest 3.
But when you account for bad ports ( most games are made for quest, then ported at minimum cost on PC ) and compression overhead / artifacts ( When you use Quest as a PCVR headset, since does not have direct HDMI connection with the PC, the image quality is impacted ) the Quest 3 version might still play better.

In the case of Alien, the answer is you play neither. Honnestly, forget this game altogether for now.
It would be absolutely unplayable with your computer, so that's out of the question. But also, considering the state of the game, I seriously doubt 3 month of optimisation with get this title to run at an acceptable state on quest 3. Not without making it look like a bad N64 game.

The most beautifull games you can play in your headset are still PCVR titles. Because, as I said, when it's used correctly your computer hardware is a good step above the mobile CPU and GPU of the quest 3.

I recommend half life Alyx. The game is so well optimised. The only downside if, even 10 years after, nothing else come close. If you play it first everything else will pale in comparison. I'm not kidding.
Apart from that, Lone echo 1 ( The 2 also, but I'm not sure how it will run )
Maybe Aasgard wrath 1 ( But I didn't like the game itself that much).
Vertigo 1 remake and vertigo 2 are really good, should run fine on a 1080, and while they
might not be the best looking title they still look better than any quest game.

Have you tried running it using dx11 instead of 12? It would constantly crash for me using dx12 but not with dx11
Get the PCVR version. I have the Quest 3s. I do use the Puppis S1 router.
I am running it on a 2080 with a very old OC cpu and still it will run at 72fps with everything on highest except pixel density on 0.8 and shadows on medium.
It does get heavy stutter moments when a new part of the map is loading when you are at "loading" doors but after you walk trough them when it all loaded it will run fine again.
Go look for comparisons online and see the graphical difference to make up your mind.
Quest version did just get an update but its still far behind the PC version.

Also using the Puppis S1 here on a Quest 3 w/PCVR version. My wifi 6 wasn't enough to hack it - kept getting stutters and compression lag issues. The Puppis took a bit to get it working right, but now that it does, I get a buttery smooth connection. And direct cable was annoying to have; didn't want to setup an ugly ceiling support to fix it.

Puppis S1 here - VD runs great - game is a bit of a power hog - Ryzen 7 5700x and a 4060ti - though running at a mix of Med / High - seems to be good TAA using TSR = kills it though - so sticking to FXAA
