i dipped in early and am regretting it. i am nearly finished with the story, but got hit by a bug that makes me unable to move on. the devs claim to be aware of the issue but still i cannot continue to play since nearly 1 week.
Your PC won't run it.
I have a 3070 and the game runs like ass. Get it on quest with reduced visuals unless you plan to upgrade in the near future.
Does not seem to be cross-buy applicable.
If they are correctly optimised on PC, then the PC version should look a bit better. Even on your 1080-based computer. It still has much more power than a Quest 3.
But when you account for bad ports ( most games are made for quest, then ported at minimum cost on PC ) and compression overhead / artifacts ( When you use Quest as a PCVR headset, since does not have direct HDMI connection with the PC, the image quality is impacted ) the Quest 3 version might still play better.
In the case of Alien, the answer is you play neither. Honnestly, forget this game altogether for now.
It would be absolutely unplayable with your computer, so that's out of the question. But also, considering the state of the game, I seriously doubt 3 month of optimisation with get this title to run at an acceptable state on quest 3. Not without making it look like a bad N64 game.
The most beautifull games you can play in your headset are still PCVR titles. Because, as I said, when it's used correctly your computer hardware is a good step above the mobile CPU and GPU of the quest 3.
I recommend half life Alyx. The game is so well optimised. The only downside if, even 10 years after, nothing else come close. If you play it first everything else will pale in comparison. I'm not kidding.
Apart from that, Lone echo 1 ( The 2 also, but I'm not sure how it will run )
Maybe Aasgard wrath 1 ( But I didn't like the game itself that much).
Vertigo 1 remake and vertigo 2 are really good, should run fine on a 1080, and while they
might not be the best looking title they still look better than any quest game.
I am running it on a 2080 with a very old OC cpu and still it will run at 72fps with everything on highest except pixel density on 0.8 and shadows on medium.
It does get heavy stutter moments when a new part of the map is loading when you are at "loading" doors but after you walk trough them when it all loaded it will run fine again.
Go look for comparisons online and see the graphical difference to make up your mind.
Quest version did just get an update but its still far behind the PC version.
