The save system is even more frustrating given the fact that there are very long sequences without any save and you can die in two hits. Which is not helped by the fact that the devs thought it was clever to implement a system where aliens spawn on a timer every minute or two. Not only does that make the save system very frustrating but also makes the game painfully repetitive. I'm only a few hours in and already so bored of just fighting the same enemies constantly with the same weapons. It's not not fun or tense, it's just poor game design. The devs clearly implemented the constant respawn system because they couldn't be bothered to make more interesting scripted encounters and have more moments to build up the tension.
Maybe come back in 6 months and things will have improved, but as of now, Alien Isolation is still king.
I would have liked to read all the messages on the terminals to get a better understanding of the story but I didn't bother as I got sick of shooting a couple of aliens every couple of minutes.
They don't even provide any scares because the motion tracker chirps or they make a racket in the vents before they show up.
The scripted events are more enjoyable as you face a bigger wave and it's more chaotic.
Part of the terror is the tension. This is an action shooter so yeah you shoot stuff. But there should have been an stealth option. Being able to hide somewhere. Save Ammo. Also the spawn times should be more random. It would be good once a section was cleared of xrays that they wont reappear. Gives a bit time to roam around and enjoy the atmosphere.
Lets hope they learn from their mistakes and part 2 will be better. But overall its pretty fun and tense.
It runs butter smooth on my system. 4070. Quest 3. No issues all settings on high.
Interesting. What are your ODT settings, please? Also, are you using dynamic res, what are your other graphics settings in the game itself?
I have a 4070 Super and Q3 and it's dropping thousands of frames - even when I drop settings to Medium - but only in this game. Other games all run perfectly, and consistently my rig comes within top 10 for it's spec in the usual benchmarks, so would be good to know what detailed settings you've got so I can try against those.
Even on my 4090, afterburner says I've got a locked 90fps and yet it feels like it's running at 40. I've checked and ASW is definitely turned off. All other games run great.
You can hide, actually, and there's a good chance you'll remain unseen for a pretty good amount of time or even avoid them long enough to get to the elevator or panic room. I think the aliens that keep coming about to sweep places from time to time really adds to the tension, because you can never truly feel safe.
