They never said anything about it being part 1 or anything like that originally. Suddenly right before release, once early players got their hands on the game and began pointing it out; did the store pages suddenly get updated with "part 1". It is however, as is, the same length roughly as other VR games at this price point, so it's up to you on how you judge it with that information.
There are some indicators that it might have been converted from Flat to VR early on, but it does feel like a VR game.
You just have to toggle the annoying ADS snap off and such, and they fixed a few other issues already so it's fine in that regard.
The BIGGEST issue is neither of those things however. It's that performance is dreadful.

Game released on 19. December and you can clearly see they added this paragraph post-release "PART ONE OF A TWO-PART STORY
Zula's Fight Begins Here: Part One of this gripping two-part story thrusts you into the violent world of ALIEN, where you will uncover the secrets lurking within the GES facility on LV-354, the enigmatic planet Purdan. This installment stands alone as a complete story yet leaves you hanging on a thrilling cliffhanger, eager to dive deeper into Zula's unfolding story in Part Two, where she will face new challenges and deadlier enemies."
This should be illegal and soon, practices like these will not be allowed on Steam platform at all.
This game had all the red flags
- False Advertising
- Worthless color reskins of weapon and armor
- Forced VR Exclusivity.
- And yes, also DEI
Thanks to all those who bought it and reviewed, you are the real heroes who saved me and countless others headache and money.
Thanks for the info. You'd think that performance from a studio that already made few VR games would be good...
Most of this applied to the Dune movie and countless other media (including Alien: Isolation). It's not rare for a movie or game to end on a cliffhanger and often, the follow-up isn't even confirmed.
The marketing bait and switch was a bit tactless but it's a full game and longer than Behemoth or Metro. It's also a well made and enjoyable game, if you can get past the technical issues.
Ah yes, here's the real reason your upset. The game has a black woman as the protagonist.
Hate to break it to you, but the franchise that's critical of capitalism that was one of the first blockbuster sci-fi franchises to make a female actor the lead in an action role (without making her a Damsel in Distress) might have been conceived and written by people with left-leaning political views.
No, that is indeed not why im really upset, but I do see it as a negative. I am a gamer and I do notice how more and more frenchises put a black female into main role. And don't try to to paint me as racist or misogenic because im not that, really. But if you can't acknowledge this trend that's been happening for past few years, maybe you should open your eyes.
I'm glad Alien and Aliens movies alsways had a female protagonist because it just wouldn't have the same magic and it would simply not connect to overall themes and designs of the movie.
Whatever you guys say, In my eyes, releasing a game and on day 0 changing the description and in that way announcing that this is only a part of a story, is a very customer unfriendly practice. Just imagine if they announced it before release. People would not pre-order the game in such quantities as they have, knowing that they're getting only empty promises of a sequel.
When it comes to this sequel, it depends on the sales of this game, which was released during Christmas holidays and lookng at the sales, all I have to say is "yikes"
I'm glad you're happy with it, more power to you.
I do not agree with the statement that Isolation did they same marketing deception as Rogue Incursion. Isolation is a self-contained story arch which does end with a cliffhanger, but the meat is still there on the bone in the game.
I usually feel this way for new games with Denuvo fees baked into the cost. Day 1 buyers and early adopters always pay the highest price for the lowest quality version. Can breeze in later down the road after the game's been patched up and on sale, and hopefully without the Denuvo malware. I'm surprised they didn't add it to ARI but it seems the game struggles enough to perform well.
Who cares? A good game is a good game, and a bad one is a bad one. In the same way there are people of all denominations in leading roles in the real world, we should expect to see that in games, if they are to be immersive and reflective of reality.
Well somebody certainly cares and is financially incentivized in the entire industry to do that. And its not just games, it also movies and series.
Well, Zula is an old char from the comics etc., so an understandable choice from the developer, and I imagine many people are probably pleased to play her in this game. Those who are unfamiliar with the comics will not care either way, she's just a character.
I think people got the wrong idea, yes the game probably was meant to be a bit longer so it's a shame but I really don't think they just cut the game they originally wanted to make in 2, they cut a little bit and are gonna make a second one that extends what they wanted to make. This gives them time and allows them to add new stuff. In this part one, there is really only 1 enemy (well as far as I know because I can't progress anymore because of a bug so i'm waiting on a fix..) and it gets pretty repetitive. Having an extra 3 hours of that might just have felt like stretching it. For example I think the metro VR game was really bad in the last 3-4 hours, after chapter 6 or 7 it just reused the same stuff over and over and it just feels like filler so the game lasts 10 hours when they only really had 6 hours of original gameplay.
Yes it sucks that is has been shortened especially since the price is pretty high for the amount of hours of gameplay but we are gonna get a second one. And yeah I really doubt part 2 is gonna be free for those with part 1 and it being a DLC or a standalone game doesn't really change anything. I think it's gonna be another game that you have to buy that is the continuation of the first but with new stuff, not just more of the same. Since they already got the engine and VR interaction stuff done they will be able to focus on content so hopefully the part 2 will be longer and have a lot of unique content.
