Tips for Nightmare/Insane?
After strolling through the game on normal without ever being even close to dying and lots of ressources all the time, I started another run on the highest difficulty (dunno what it's called in english). For everyone unhappy with the dumb AI and aliens waiting for ages before attacking... they absolutely waste no time, flank more rigorously and shred you a new one within seconds on this difficulty. Not a fan of their increased health, but the rest is greatly terrifying. You really want to get rid of them before they come close and leverage the dodge mechanic. And vents... man are they now a deathtrap.

That being said and knowing the game fairly well, I still struggle during the standoff sections. Any tips on how to approach these? While picking off the first on a distance, two more keep closing in, having only enough time/stamina to combat the second before the third finally gets me. Any ideas what to try?

I wish I could help, but I'm currently stuck trying to survive the elevator part on expert. I keep getting killed by the last one. So much fun though. This game keeps surprising me. Earlier today I was trying that same part and thought I had it under control. I had killed the first 2, and had the third one down on health, I just had to turn and run for a second to reload a few rounds, he was at a decent distance and around a corner so I figured I had time. Well, when I turned to run I came face to face with the 4th one. Game over man.

On hard mode, the part with the xeno blocking the stairs is really freaking hard. I died many times here just trying to get Davis to the elevator where you must face off with even more xenos while you wait for the elevator to arrive.

The key is to shotgun blast the xeno blocking the stairs and run up to the room on the right where you can close the doors behind you and manage the incoming assault. They funnel in through two openings in the room where you can pick them off one by one, making sure to reload your shotgun and use health stems constantly. Grab all the ammo you can as well as the grenade in a box on the floor. Once you kill about a dozen xenos, they temporarily stop. Use this opportunity to go back to the panic room at the base of the stairs you originally came from. The save terminal will finally allow you to save!

You will now need to head back up the stairs, go straight and press the elevator button which will trigger another wave of xenos. Apply the same strategy of closing the doors and making them funnel in through the two openings. Once you hear the alert that the elevator has arrived, quickly head in and close the door. (Oh, and dont’t forget to bring the head!)

That's what I did. I got by it, but that save point with the broken door had spawns as soon as I reloaded every single time. That was rough. It was like 3 seconds after spawning I was readying to fight.

I feel like they haven't properly tested this on Insane, like they built the game around normal, then just tuned or detuned for higher/lower difficulties.

I mean that elevator section, the stairway is one thing, but 12 xenomorphs spawn. Shotgun holds max 28 ammo, Pistol 36 I think. With xenomorphs taking 4 shotgun or 5 pistol if optimal, thats 15 kills total you have, if you have MAX ammo which you likely won't. So it's very problematic because you may not even have enough ammo.

Anyhow, I had to figure out how to despawn the xenomorphs in the part before the Elevator waves so that became much easier. The xenomorph guarding the stairs isn't even there anymore! And then I had to find a spot to camp and be immune to damage during the Elevator waves which i'm a little sad about, but I feel didn't have much choice.

I reckon they will make it a lot easy with patches to come as some of the things in the game just don't seem fair.

Hey, I just happened to come across this and I have some tips I could share! “Expect this to be patched someday”!

So I play the psvr 2 version so results may vary. So I discovered a way to despawn aliens during the escape the hive with Davis head a while back when I was stuck there on insane.

What you do basically is you draw the alien’s attention and run back to the sewage area and climb up to your right side platform. Aliens then will try to get you and some can still hurt you if you’re too close to the edge, you then shoot some and it should thin the herd. After a while you can safely run around ( important: use this time to carry shotgun ammo and stims in a trashcan back to that platform to kill the aliens after you call elevator ) until you call the elevator as that starts another scripted wave.

I did this twice, 1st. when you had to get the shotgun, 2nd. when I called down the elevator.
I made it highly more manageable but since then I’ve been stuck on a yet another survival section.

They sorta bug out (lol) and retract to the area where you started. At least that’s what I think based on the motion tracker, and thats that.

Edit. I’ll also add this: in later parts, you can also run back and save after bit of progress and try to avoid aliens. They don’t always manage to hurt you so yeah, that’s pretty much it.
