What's the best way to play Steam PC games with Quest 3?
I like the quest 3 for its portability and can accept lower mobile graphics in most games but there are a few recent releases i really want to try on steam.

What is the best way these days to do that? I'd rather use wireless than the link cable. My home network speeds are incredibly good as its built for streaming on platforms like GeForce now and i have wifi 6e so hopefully latency would be minimal.

Is virtual desktop still the way to go or are there other methods people are using?

Best case is being close to the router. Nothing on the same frequency while your playing the headset wireless to interfere. Having the PC wired to the router to reduce latency. Having the pc on wifi as well as the headset is going to be less ideal. As well as a decent pc to run the VR games which can be very demanding.

Virtual desktop is great, steam link is good as well, i've had worse luck with the meta streaming but it still works as well. It's really pc being wired, and good wireless connection for the headset

Well if you use a wifi spot dedicate to you're Quest 3, you can try Steam link and Air link. Both are free. As a paid option there is Virtual Desktop, who is known to be stable and work well on low/medium pc. If you want the best visual -> Air link the best (but you're wifi need to be very stable), then Virtual desktop and the last one Steam Link.

Honestly, after 1 year without cable, i finaly bought a link cable, and it's WAAAAAYY better than wireless, even with a good wifi. The only way to get best latency + best compression / graphic visual. There is NO MATCH, after many test i've maid. Yeah VD compression is impressive for wireless, but the lost quality is there, and there still compression visible (if you get the eye of course).

With my 4080 super, godlike preset with VD, it look worst than max out air link resolution. But Air link is not always stable , depend on the hardware / wifi.

Have you tried steamlink at all and does that perform any better?

Thanks.
Will try steam link and air link first.

I do have a cable. Have had it since my Quest 2 lol but its still in its box.
Do you find being tethered annoying though?

I really like the freedom wireless gives me when standing and walking around.
Or do you play sitting perhaps?

I've tried them all. And steamlink right now is the worst in term of visual quality. Haven't use it since 2/3 month, so maybe it change.
But just try them and see what work the best for you ^^ Air link / steamlink are free, so try them.
But after weeks of testing, best visual is Air link. The most stable is VD. And sometime, Steamlink wotk better in some games (like NMS) but it's rare, and visualy it's the worst.

Honestly, having a cable is not bothering me at all. You just need to adjust your space for it, try to let the cable behind you, and everything will be fine. You even can buy some suport cable to hang the cable from the ceiling (haven't done that, i don't need it).
And i always play stand up !

Yeah my friend got some of those retractable ski pass holder things and he hangs that off his ceiling and then loops the cable up through that so it is out of his way

Try them yeah, like i said, air link it really depend on many things ^^ And if you really don't want to use cable, and Air link / steamlink are not enough for you (or working well) use VD, it's still a good invesment.

I actually use my gaming chair to put the cable up ^^ and it's enough for not walk on the cable by accident
