Reviewers are saying Virtual Desktop (Steam VR) has performance issues
Anyone want to weigh in or have experience using Virtual Desktop (steam VR) with Meta Quest 3? I'd like to use VD at all cost. Meta Airlink is just trash.

Survios told one guy to use OpenXR as VD is not supported by them.

Virtual Desktop has nothing to do with SteamVR. When you run a game through Virtual Desktop it will open the Quest Link app if the game needs Oculus to run,m or SteamVR if the game uses OpenVR. If you set your OpenXR Runtime to be Oculus or SteamVR it will open the one you selected for OpenXR titles as well... but if you use VD you should be using VDXR as your OpenXR Runtime. When you do that is when the game plays without having to open either Quest Link or SteamVR. A lot less overhead, and a lot better framerates.

The first comment makes no sense as well. VD is a native OpenXR runtime. SteamVR is native to OpenVR but can also do OpenXR though not as well, same with Quest Link. You don't get to choose to use OpenXR, a game is either designed to use it or it isn't. You only get to chose your OpenXR runtime application.

So wait, the game doesn't work with the most popular PCVR streamer ? this is.... a big fail

I tried Virtual Desktop (with Quest 3) first and it seemed to run fine (OpenXR Runtime set to Automatic). Tried Meta Link too with Steam's OpenXR runtime set to SteamVR then Oculus to see if it would help the game's woeful performance. It didn't make any noticeable difference.

I'm having stuttering and artifact issues with Virtal Desktop. running a 4090 aqnd framrate is a solid 120fps but the game stutters somwhat and sometimes artifact such as straight lones bending, etc... does this mean that I can't use VD for this game? I don't like cables, is there another way to use it wirlessly?

Is there DLSS?

in its current state, yes you can play with VD, but it'll only work on the steamvr runtime. Its only broken if you use VDXR (VD's opencomposite runtime). People are upset about this because using an opencomposite runtime without running it on top of steamvr gives massive performance gains. its still playable, but until the VD devs fix it, youre gonna have to play with less performance overhead

There is no option whatsoever for DLSS so the answer is no. I will try again today and see what happens. Controls are a chore anyway, also rendering the full body was a mistake cause it gets woefully warped if you slightly move from you initial position in the real world. Side weapon does not rotate if you move irl wich had me waste 5 minutes trying to extract it before realizing it was behind me...no in game option or anyway to go back to main menu(wtf?). Is this a beta?

PSA: Virtual Desktop support was fixed in a patch yesterday. A Survios dev even came onto the VD Discord and announced it.

Make sure you have VDXR selected as your runtime in VD (via the desktop app).

It improved performance dramatically for me.

Yep it is better today but tracking has some small stutter here and there something I didnt notice in other games. Also when opening the pad, continuous green lines on the display have a warping effect. They bend like crazy. Odd. Finally in game menù is working and I can fix the warping body issue by selecting proper rotating chair. Encountered an issue when extracting the rifle it would be stuck on autofire xD not sure what happend but almost depleted one ammo stack. No auto save is a terrible design choice especially on PC VR wherebI cannot put everything in stand by if I have to attendo to other things irl and resume playing at a later time.
