-make sure you have every omen upgrade that can save you time.
-make sure you have all the alternate endings complete since doing the true ending is mildly faster (Skips pulling out the heart, skips opening the second supply crate.)
-Grab chunky, pancakes and encoder as soon as possible, skip day one.
-Your goal is to make just bare minimum rent and skip any leftover time.
-pray you get pipe bomb guy since with chunky thats a LOT of free money for one of the quickest jobs.
-Recommend having a copy of the grimoire open in a browser or something and pause every time you need to check something like the order of the switches for project ascension.
If youre willing to grind, you could also store an assload of trading cards in your temporal storage and use those to skip the the early days that dont pay as well. the more the better. i would recommend this the most but it requires the most set-up.
Some sort of run timer would be great, but it doesn't exist yet.
my personal suggestion but i would avoid purchasing the welder and gumball stations.
Welder and gumballs are only necessary for certain modules that have, at least in my experience, a reasonably low chance of showing up as a job. and if youre taking sidecar you can avoid them completely. When you absolutely have to pull out a few gumballs for project ascension, its best to use the rental machine because itll cost you 50 coins and save you purchasing the gumball and welder machines and the basement expansion. If youre trying to speedrun you need to save every coin possible for rent.
Using a simple Excel spreadsheet and Background Recording to find my punch out for all 11 days, I came to a total of 2779 seconds, which is 79 seconds too many. I will try again and hope for better RNG. Hopefully no time-consuming modules like AI and FTL, and no mystery clients.
God, if only these Omens were worth anything after unlocking Kyle.
Day 1 Chunky clears though, + one or two trading card grabs.
You have 11 days, with 8 minutes each by default, so you need to be under 4 minutes on average to make it. Only the work timer in Frantic with a timer counts, mind you. You can prepare a lot in the evening and not have to worry about wasting time.
First three days require you to hit 250 RENT. The third day task, if done correctly, will always put you above that with Chunky.
Your goal here is to finish each day as quickly as possible. You might want to delay Chunky until the end of the 2nd day to always be able to choose easy tasks. The moment you are done ringing the bell, immediately clock out too and write down the time.
At the latest by the end of the second day, you should buy Encoder and make three Tomfoolery cartridges for all three levels in case you get the Security boss instead of the faster pipe bombs. You can remove Chunky, make the cartridges, and then put Chunky back in. You could rent it, but Encoder is needed so often, you will have to buy it anyway.
After RENT, go buy the expansion, Pancake stacker, Gumballs (or delay until after 2nd rent, I don't think there's a 2nd week task that needs Gumballs?) and Sidecar, ignore welder (rent it if absolutely necessary for FTL). As reference, I finished the early days in about 30 seconds each. You need that buffer.
If you get lucky with the money, you can prep for the security boss, or just see on the day which you get and restart to menu to prep before starting.
Second RENT is also practically guaranteed with Chunky. Once again, do one job per day and immediately clock out once you've rung the bell.
Make certain to prepare everything for the boss. One cartridge with the proper Chop logo, three normal fuses (I've had three broken ones before), 3 canisters with RGB gases, and three pancake stacks (1332 all). It's critical to not get delayed into fixing oil too.
Third RENT is were it gets tricky. You will get 960 for the boss if you do it right with Chunky. That means you need to get 770 per day on the other days to be sure to get through. Cards can save you here.
Competency test is hopefully something you're reasonably fast at now, having a second monitor helps a lot here.
Fourth RENT is tricky too. You want to aim for a minimum of 1.5k, 2k is better for safety. You should ideally only do one job, if necessary make up the difference with cards.
I got a bad Chunky draw here and had to do two, as well as extend the timer for the FTL task, but it was still enough.
In the last evening, carefully read through manual and prepare absolutely everything ahead of time, use all pages of the storage for it, so that you only need to grab everything from there. FTL X gems may be buggy when left in storage, so that's an exception.
can you share your backup save files pls? pre-ascension will be perfect
You need Python installed on your PC to do that.
For example, cope that folder to C:\\Backup.
Example: C:\\Backup\\123\\last_day.sav
Example: C:\\Backup\\123\\day2.sav
Damn, I spent more time on the whole thing than speedrun duration itself. But it was interesting.
Also, if you have enough coins on the day of the third R.E.N.T. you are allowed to fail the competency test. As long as you have 2500 coins after failing the test, you can pay R.E.N.T. and don't get killed.
On my successful run I got around 4000 coins by doing 1-2 jobs a day with chunky and selling a bunch of trading cards. I just pushed some random buttons during the test and had to pay ~1000 coins for failing, but it saved me a lot of time.
Do only the first jobs each day, and pick a fast one, except for rent day 1, and the days before rent days, if you don't have enough money already.
Before the day starts prepare:
- pancakes for Oil, AI and rebreather module
- one pair of each electric and water fuel
- two lightbulbs filled with freeze
- a snail feeder filled with feed
- three cartridges encoded with the three star maps
Always (I recommend the time storage for this) have prepared:
- An empty canister, one filled with cleaner, one filled with oil
- 1-2 pumps
- cartridges encoded with each tomfoolery level and each xp pack for the ai module
Prepare the pancakes after the first rent day.
Before the second rent day, have in your inventory:
- pankake stacks for the three hologram modules
- three small fuses
- a canister with each colored gas at 70%
- a cartridge encoded with the proper hologram
Before the third rent day, have enough money (about 3500) that you can just fail the test as quickly as possible and still make rent.
Before the last day, prepare all necessary items for the injection, heart, soul fragment scanner module, and have all necessary items for the first two modules (the one with the FTL core and the communications one) in your inventory. Also, remember that you can go on and prepare other modules while you are waiting for the soul fragment scan to finish, as long as you count in your head in order to return to the module in time to scan the next fragment.
As another poster said above: The FTL core is bugged and might not work, if you have it in your storage over night, so buy that one on the last day when you need it.
First off I did the 10 min first rent in focused mode so it's is possible.
Second you can reset a day and nothing changes. So for example you can start a day pick a job look at it then quit to the main menu and before you start that day this time you can buy everything for that job and then clock in. Including using the loan o matic to make encoders or gumballs so you only have to buy the pancake maker and no upgraded shop.
This is extremely helpful for the final ascension day with the gumballs. I restarted my become a god achievement day twice because of silly mistakes that didn't end the day and both times the gumball needed to be the same and it came out of the gumball machine in the same order. So memorizing a few of these things and then restarting the day will get you through extremely quickly.
I also am 8 cards away from 25 in my temporal storage which I plan to use to skip every rent payment and only do a single job before the final boss to get enough money for ascension purchases. I won't be using chunky because I can pick even faster jobs this way and just restart the day to do them very fast.
I'll edit this after I complete this to let everyone know if this worked well. It might still be better to use frantic mode to make all jobs easier but I haven't tested how much easier the jobs are compared to focused mode.
Edit: It all worked. I made a run with 25 cards and wound up only grabbing lemonade honk pancake stacker and gumball machine with the single extension to the shop to place everything. I got the pipe bomb in this run and I was able to use rerolls and restarting the day to learn exactly what I needed for every job before i did them.
Biggest tips: have 25 cards ready and sell them all the first night and buy lemonade if its an option and just pancake and gumball... you can get 28 cards if you dont want to buy anything but the pancake stacker.
each day you clock in check the jobs pick the fastest one look through the job to make a list of everything you need rerolling a couple times if you dont see anything you like. Then exit to main menu reload the day and you can go over and buy everything before you clock in.
like others have said on the last day do god mode if possible its way faster over all and you can even have the gumball ready ahead of time if you restart once on the final day you can learn how to get the gumball very very fast. Lastly as stated by others don't buy the ftl x gem until the current final day. It bugged on me my second full attempt at this.
This was done all on Focused mode.
Hope this helps others.
I modify your guide a bit and was able to do it on Focused mode too.
-I gathered 30 cards.
-SaveScum my day 1 for not losing my card.
-Sell them day 1
-With the surplus of money of the cards i only bought; Gumball machine, pancake stacker, encoder, and 1 expansion.
-SaveScum each day when you wake up make a copy of the save in case of problem you could always alt+F4 if something really wrong happen.
-Try to get the easier quest or reroll.
-After each first mission just go check out at the JobTimeClock and go to bed.
-Try to do the mission good enough to dont lose money.
-If you get the Bomb mission as a Boss you save a lot of time but its not mandatory.
-I had to redo the TEST with the pig 3 times because i tried to go really fast.
-Make a day 10 save scum
-On day 11 the last boss note everything you need even the gumball and go back to day 10.
-Buy everything and put all the item in group of machine like the heart or the phone, etc use all the different storage to put them together efficiently. (As noted dont buy the x gem at day 10)
-Doing the God item version of the boss save a lot of time.
-Profit!?
- Napping through the first R.E.N.T. works .. just make sure you bought the vending machines you want first. You will however, as a consequence, start Day 4 in debt and will have to wait to end of day to pay it back with cards (I had about 12 or so from the previous practice run). Having the 2 rebate coupons helps get the ball rolling too.
- Did the classic combo chunky+sidecar, but also added the two new vending machines to flip the smallest penalty and nullify the biggest... this means you can skip modules that are problematic (like a messed up remedy lever, which counts as two penalties, gets fully nullified this way, or having to go through AI mood corrections, but I recommend you do a test run first to learn what is covered and what can't skip)
- At the TEST, I had enough (and had the two mentioned machines) so I just started it, flipped a random switch twice to fail immediately, saving a LOT of time.
- New build a gum ball machine is also a huge time saver.. managed to avoid cockpit and FTL modules, but you will still need one for the communication module of the ending
- Didn't try buying the X gem before the day of the ascension since I wanted to try without save scumming so I cannot confirm or not if this bug is fixed, but if it's the only thing you buy, it doesn't affect the time much
Finished a bit over 20 minutes... so with the patch, obtaining this achievement is a LOT easier...
