Will it run on linux with protonGE or not after the kernel anti-cheat update?

Most say the update will break linux gamers.
I read a few recent comments on protonDB that say it ONLY WORKS with protonGE which gets me really confused.

Yeah, ignore that comment on ProtonDB as it makes no sense.

At the time that comment was posted there is no EA Kernel Anti Cheat in WRC, at the time of this post there is no EA Kernel Anti Cheat in WRC. It will be arriving with Patch V1.9 which is currently set for release in July, exact date is unknown.

EA Kernel Anti Cheat software does not work on Linux no matter which version of Proton/WINE/GloriousEggroll (GE) version you use.

Take a look at F1 2024 which has had it from the start, it does not run on Linux.

As you can see other EA Sport titles don't run on Linux/Steamdeck due to their crippled Anti Cheat software such as EA Sports FC 23, 24.

But bear in mind YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE RUNNING ANY RING 0 ANTI CHEAT SOFTWARE as this is running above the operating system and can do anything it likes to your system.

They could use Steam's EAC, which is not Kernel level and works, but choose not to.

Well.. its 2025.. And now EA rolled-out kernel anti-cheat and they just denied Linux support!

Well the FKED. So this game can not be played anymore due to anti-cheat. Great move EA..

It is possible to rollback to the last version that worked on Linux of EAWRC which is V1.8.1.

Its not the easiest and requires a lot of time and disk space.

(Would have been easy if Codemasters had used Steam Tags to switch between release versions, but no.)

But does work as I can play EAWRC on Linux :)
