yea, otherwise shimmer or bluriness is unbearable
Coming from Automobilista 2 where VR works out of the box in crystal clear quality it’s really a pain in the ass here to find proper settings…
I'm using cinematic AA and quality DLSS to get make it sharp and shimmer free with a 4090. Downside is there are some motion artifacts from DLSS.
As you can see it can be clear, but is much more demanding than AMS2 and AC to reach a slightly inferior level of clarity and sharpness. It's similar to ACC in this way. With that being said I'm ok with the image quality and performance with a 4090.
Here's both a VR desktop capture and thru the lens cell phone capture. The cell phone videos kinda suck because it's hard to keep the video in focus. You can see moments where it's in focus and clear though and that's how it looks the entire time I'm in VR.
Desktop capture, make sure to watch in 1440p: https://youtu.be/vgiGvytpnPk?si=KowJtEfJhdwsBXgC

You may have to adjust your in game brightness for these settings to look correct in your headset. I have the brightness turned down some in options.
What resolution in game and headset?
Any tweaks outside of the game (in Oculus app or Oculus Tray Tool for example)?
I have a Quest3 though and not a Quest Pro so I don’t know if your setting can be used for my different headset.
What’s the trick to get it sharper then? The r.Tonemapper.Sharpen setting mostly?
Just tried these settings and with DLSS Quality and AA Cinematic and it still looks blurry on my Quest 2 (<--max render res).....
Everything in game ultra except for reflections and mirrors on low and shadows to medium. Foveated rendering is off. AA is set to cinematic and DLSS to quality. Turning on DLSS was the only thing that stop the tree shimmer. My quest pro debug tool settings are 400 Mbps encode birate over USB C. The refresh rate is 80 hz and the headset render resolution is 5408 x 2752
Yeah i've tried all that mate..... Seems to me, as soon as you enable DLSS or AA above low, it introduces blur on everything that is more than a few yards away from the car..... Without DLSS&AA=low it looks sharp/no blur, but then you get the shimmering effect.
I've been playing with No up-scaling & low AA and just putting up with the shimmering, which on most of the tracks is not a problem and to me is better than the blur.
I do have to drop some of the advanced settings lower in order to maintain a descent enough frame rate but have tried with ultra settings and still have the same blur or shimmering results.
PC Specs:
5800X3D
RTX 3080 10GB
32GB DDR4
1Tb 980 Pro M.2
Quest 2 (5408 x 2752 @ 80hz) ASW = off, 400 Mbps, Encode Res width = 3664, Distor Curv= low..... Not tried the pixel override in Debug tool yet, but as i'm near the limit in regard of FPS overhead (with DLSS off) It's prob wise not too tbh. May try it later when i have more time on my hands.
Some of the image quality differences will be the quest 2 vs pro. I had Rift1 to Quest 2 to Quest Pro and the image quality jump from the quest 2 to pro was huge. Not only is the hardware better but with the 4090 and quest pro all the encoding artifacts and compression disappeared at high enough debug tool settings
Yeah, tried DLSS Sharpening all the way up to 100%. I also tried putting the tonemap sharpen to 1.5 and didn;t seem to help much.... I'll prob try upping it to >2.0 when i have time and see if that helps and see how it affects performance.
Maybe it's a hardware limitation issue, But other games not using the Unreal Engine do not suffer with the blur/shimmer issue at all. I came from the OG VIVE and the quest 2 was night and day better. Unfortunately due to circumstances, i don't think i'll be able to afford upgrading my PC or VR headset for quite some time :(
I mainly play games like Dirt2, AC with CSP/Pure, AMS2 and they all look perfectly fine.
I have AC:C and that also suffered with nasty blur or shimmer, but got it looking ok by using the pixel density setting in game, which is not really ideal.
Cheers for your input though.
