DDU removes all the old display drivers i personally dont do it in safe mode that is what is recommended though lol
more or less download DDU download the full nvidia drivers(off the website) turn off your internet or windows will install a video driver on bootup and you will be in the same boat again run DDU let it restart your pc and install your drivers restart the pc and turn your internet back on.
anyways this program has helped me out so many times on nvidia and amd drivers in cases where i was getting problems/crashing/low performance its pretty much something i just use every time i install graphics/display drivers or updates now.
Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
Type devmgmt.msc and click OK to open the Device Manager.
Locate and click on Display adapters to expand it.
Right-click on the NVIDIA driver and choose Properties.
Go to the Driver tab, and select the Roll Back Driver option.

I'm trying some stuff now from a youtube video. I'm going to see if what I did will work.
thanks, i'll be back

Option 2 was going through the device manager and having the computer search for the drivers. It only found 1 driver and installed it.
Don't know about Option 3 {yet} because Option 2 seems to have worked. !st load up ran a Stage smooth as they were before. Usually I have to restart once after starting to get rid of the lag. This time, no lag on the first try.
till next time, as I feel with this game there's always going to be a next time until the 2025 version comes out.
thanks for the help and comments.

Just ran 3 more stages, smooth as glass.
And thanks GoBlue, I'll check out DDU. I just didn't need it this time.
and stogey, I also enjoy this version when it works.
