Unreal Engine 4 was a mistake
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mh2hmtYC9M

Worse graphics and performance for what, slightly longer tracks? Is that really a worthwhile tradeoff? I hope Codemasters realize their mistake and go back to their proprietary engine after this blunder

Exactly that , Milestone use UE PERFECT no problems at all , Imagine Milestone makes a Rally game like their SLRE that had to me great Physics , and use UE ? LoL .

ACC when first arrived had BIG UE problems like stutter , glitches , draw distance , pop ups etch etch ... But they fix most of them ( after YEARS ) , and now their Next AC2 game would NOT use UE ... maybe they take their lesson.

About VR we all know how bad is VR on ACC , and how amazing is on engines used on Dirt Rally 1.0 , AC , and Automobilista 2 , Raceroom.

To me, Dirt Rally still looks better than DR 2.0.
The DR 2.0 team had the newer EGO engine available. Now they have Unreal 4 and it looks pretty good to me, but I'm curious to see what it looks like in VR.
Dirt Rally was worlds ahead of DR 2.0. on my Oculus Rift 2!
I have to agree with u , Dirt Rally looks to me better than DR2.0 I have rec Greek Stages side by siade many times, Also VR looks better on DR1.0.
Other than that i DONT like UE perfomance is not there , Stutter problems ,VRR problems and These Devs have no XP with this engine. DF seems to agree on that , they are pro after all.
do you play at 4K ultra max antiliasing, all ultra max ? if not that's why you don't like dirt rally 2.0 :D

Plenty of games have been made in this engine even exclusively in VR that run perfectly fine with sharp/clear graphics on 6+ year old mobile processors.

The issues with this game can all be rectified with time and leadership/resources. Has EA/CM dedicated enough though?

Assetto Corsa Competizione gets literally double the framerate on my hardware and it also uses Unreal Engine. The problem is the implementation.

I agree there are performance issues with this WRC game, but comparing it to ACC, which is a last gen game, is not a good comparison.

since the beginning I have some micro freeze in ACC, still today, like everybody, the implementation can improve, but UE is made for the issues :D

And not only that, Environment on any Rally game is more demanding than track.

It wont look way better than DR2 because it will be Unreal Engine 5.

Unreal Engine 4 can already look much better... it depends on >>>developer work<<< put into it.

It is not a magical switch that makes a believable world like the marketing deppartment says on Unreal Engine preview videos.

Modded RBR can look 98% just like a real life picture just because the textures taken from photographs. It is pre baked graphics. Not dynamic at all and runs on DX 9 with very little overhead on GPUs. Ages older than UE4 and EA WRC struggles to make a photorealistic environment.

The reason for Unreal Engine spread over the market is cost reduction and streamlined process. There is nothing magical about it. It is just profit driven disregarding the real matter the game is about.

And yes, I still like ACC a lot but that took years to bake correctly on UE4. EA games are Yearly, so this one might have 5 or 6 months of support and thats it...

I said the same exact thing in post #2 in this thread.

They used UE because of the streamlined workflow, as it keeps development time/costs down.

If development time is down, why is the game still undercooked? Engine matters little, talented devs / engineers understanding the engine matter.

Because this was the most ambitious rally game to date, the sheer amount of features, and content meant they couldn't get it all done this year, so it was "undercooked".

Milestone have released a million games on UE, they are well versed on it. To my knowledge this is the first time Codemasters have used it and in my opinion, it looks good enough and runs fine with DLSS. It will get better.

We seem to be playing different games.

I'm sorry but I don't see this being the most ambitious rally title. I feel so much was carried over from DR2.. a lot of the cars, handling, ffb and most modes. I just think it's a standard rally game.
stburr91 Dec 6, 2023 @ 3:47pm
Well, can anyone name a rally game that released with more game features/modes, cars, and stages?
