Playing with the settings i need to go all the way back to 1080p and like, medium quality before the thing is at all playable. Absolutely, 100% worse.
This might sound weird but try toggling gfx settings in the basic graphics page and perhaps advanced as well. Until recently I got terrible performance even on 1080p but somehow "unstuck" things and my FPS jumped from 60 @ 1080p to 90 @ 1440p. This was prior to today's patch.
I sure did, that was like the first thing i did when I saw the performance drops. I tried everything. But BREAKING NEWS -- out of nowhere, the performance drops have disappeared and NOW I am seeing better FPS than before the patch.
So strange...I'm not sure what fixed it, or if the performance drops will return. When I was having the issues, i tried *everything* I could think of, including multiple restarts of the game. I changed my DLSS quality, my base resolution, and overall quality settings all over the place, and couldn't avoid frame drops. I even checked other games and ran a 3DMark benchmark just to make sure it wasn't my system crapping out (it wasn't).
The final thing I tried, somewhat in desperation ("might as well try this"), I restarted the entire system. Came back into the game, and performance stutters are gone. I'm now running:
- 3840x2160 base resolution
- DLSS Quality
- Anti-Alias set to low (because DLSS turned on)
- Graphics quality set to Ultra
And I'm getting a rock-solid 60FPS with VSync enabled (my 4k TV only will do 60FPS at that resolution). It's definitely running smoother than before the patch.
So what gives? Anyone else seeing similar?
I'm gonna repost this comment in its own thread see if anyone else had the same experience. I do know lots of folks are complaining about odd performance dips not seen before the latest update.
You know actually now I re-read your comment, this sounds strikingly similar to my experience as well, doesn't it? (Read my previous comment if you haven't already).
This seems to be a common problem with unity 4, I guess?
The system needs some time to adjust the shaders or whatever. The first half hour or so is horrible in terms of performance, but after that it just starts to work. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor does that, too.
Also does this again every time you update your gpu drivers.
What resolution are you using? I have a ultrawide monitor with 5120x1440 resolution and I'm struggling to get good performance that looks playable. I'll try to lower the Hz because this monitor is using 244Hz at the moment.
I have 3080Ti. I would love to hear more detailed listing of your settings.
That's perfectly normal for a 3 screens setup. I have 7680x1440, and have been using that since DR1. And DR1 and DR2 had no problem running at at 143 FPS with a GTX1080, and with far superior picture to what I have in W23 with a RTX 4070Ti.
I might add that before the 1080, I used 5040x1050 using 3 Samsung 226BW that I bought in 2007, on a GTX 690 with a steady 59 FPS in DR1. And before that, I ran those 3 screens on a MSI GTX 480 at 56-59FPS in DiRT1. I also played Crysis on those 3 screens back then. Lowest settings of course.
W23 is running so poorly, with Frametimes all over the place, and I have everything on Ultra Low and OFF where that is possible and I'm also running max OC on my whole system.
Anyway:
Not sure if turning off VSync is the best solution for me since some of the settings in nVidia control Panel is only reducing latency with it ON. I will try though and see what happens when I have time to do some comparison. Usually these problems arise from a combination of hardware and how that hardware handles things, so just because it runs great on one PC, does not mean it will on another, although same GFX card.
Cheers :)
