Difference between Sandbox and Visual Novel

What's the difference between them? Is sandbox the visual novel + minigames?

VN makes minigames easier and guides you to all of the various locations and plot points. A broad range of everything. Sandbox lets you explore and go deeper without railroads. Want to only focus on pursuing a certain character or plot path - Sandbox. Want to try a bit of everything - VN.

Sandbox also adds a character you wouldn't normally see in the VN as well as i've learnt recently, other than that it's mostly the same in whatever order or paths you desire and makes the minigame stuff more usable.
